Well

Vander Esch was the best athlete tested at the Combine.

But was he the best football player on the board for us.?

I mean I about spit up my Pepsi when I heard his name.

There were so many other guys out there I thought better from a playing standpoint who started all 4 years.

Vander Esch..?

One year as a starter and we take him

I'm still staring at my computer screen and muttering.

How about you guys?

Landry and Daniels were the two most pundits had higher. They both fell out of the first round.

As for LVE, he is a better athlete than 97% of NFL players.

Everyone of Braoddus, Brugler and Helman have been saying since February that he's a likely pick. How were you surprised? How were you comfortable going into the season with just Lee and Jaylon as your linebackers? One an injury waiting to happen and another that couldn't show he could handle more than 20 snaps a game?

Didn't say I was comfortable..

you did.

I wanted a WR to replace Dez.

We may still get one but not the ones I was hoping for.

We could have drafted WR and taken LBer in the second.

Redball, do you realize that one injury(particularly Lee) to our LB core would have devastated the defense? A starting LB was sorely needed. This was the thinnest position group on the team by far.

Now, you can argue that we got the wrong Linebacker but not the position. It had to be addressed early, no late draft pick was going to fill that need.

WR will be addressed tomorrow and there are still some good recievers out there but a guy like Ridley or Moore is not suddenly going to turn Dak into Rodgers.

A LB helps this team more than a true #1 at this point in time. I am not real happy with the recieving core either but at least that unit is serviceable.

Moore, Ridley, were the players I really wanted when we got on the clock. Evans was also intriguing, and I didn't know much about Vander Esch outside of only having one productive season and graded as a later 1st round pick. I guess we'll see how those players pan out, but I'll definitely be watching their careers closely.

When you look at the WR talent still available in round 2 and other available players we could have selected I'm comfortable with the Vander Esch pick.

Vander Esch was considered to have better instincts than Edmunds despite less starting experience.

Vander Esch had great stats.

Vander Esch graded out as a better pass defender than Roquan Smith or Edmunds. He had more INTs and Passes Defensed in 1 year than they had in 3.

Tough that you have to refute facts.

Again..

and this was against whom?

Boise States schedule is not exactly Notre Dames.

I think their big rivals are San Diego State University..

and North Dakota State.

Not exactly USC or Penn State.

Come on..

take the rose colored glasses off.

Just hope he isn't another Bobby Carpenter.

Garrett will get fired if this backfires.

I'm just done with projects like Jaylon Smith and Rico Gathers types.

We have a wild cat oilman for an owner.

For him..

Risk taking is what he lives for.

I could care less.

I want to win Championships.

Not be happy with the prettiest art work in our stadium.

This gets old.

It makes you realize 2016 was a abboration..

not the promises of things to come.

I want a chance at a superbowl also. That's why its time to finally build a good defense. Whens the last time dallas had one? Not the last 10-12 years.

Why does the best athlete matter? Jones was the best athlete in his draft and it hasn't really worked out well for us.

That Carson Wentz guy must really suck, just look at who he went up against in college. Not even mid majors.

Exactly, talent reigns all despite which college the person chose to play for. Marshal Faulk at SDSU, Vincent jackson at Northern Colorado, Ladanian out of TCU (before they were a major) Big Ben out of Miami Ohio... Talent comes despite whatever school you play for.

3 teams they played were ranked and they didn't have Richmond or Appalachian State on their schedule. BSU was ranked he was their best player.

Lawrence went to Boise State. I remember a large amount of Cowboy fans pretty much saying the same thing, back when Dallas drafted him.

A lot of people also forget playing for a team like Boise State can also work against you. While your schedule is softer so are the guys in front of you. Esch was by far the best defender on that team, everyone who went up against them knew that so they worked to take him out of the game. At Alabama Evans had several future pros around him (he wasn't even the first Alabama defender drafted). That makes it far easier to make plays, especially when the SEC is having a down year (outside of his team).
