So much parity and surprising results

The Giants being 6-1 is one of the more improbable NFL story lines in my lifetime. They jsut arent good, are trailing in the 4th quarter of every game and keep coming back often from two score deficits. That just isnt sustainbale but the fact that they've done it this long is remarkable.

It wouldnt surprise me at all if they finish 8-9 though, they could just as easily be 1-6 as 6-1.
I was calling them the paper tigers of the league before we beat them, and they still are IMO.
But they do indeed seem to get the win every week.

It's hard to say they are not good when they are 6-1.

What they are not is explosive on offense, but they have figured out something I have always subscribed to which is consistency leads to winning and winning is all that matters.

The Cowboys beat the Giants because they had Rush which forced them to play the same type of game the Giants play.

If today proved anything is that now that Dak is back, Moore (or Dak) is back to being pass-happy when they should be more focused on playing smart football.

I am not happy that the Giants are 6-1 or the Eagles are 6-0, but until teams find a way to beat them, I am not going to discount or disrespect their wins.
I don't like pass happy dak.

Which would you rather be, a team with PFF metrics that state you should be 6-1 but are 2-5 or a team that PFF metrics says you should be 2-5 but you are actually 6-1?

I am a big stat freak so I love stats and I love analytics. The key is understanding that analytics is not perfect and stats, no matter how good or how bad, do not supersede winning.

Sure, you can say, "the stats say your play will eventually catch up to you" but sports history is filled with great teams with great stats that fail to live up to their espectations and teams with bad stats that just keep on winning.

If/when the Giants start losing games, then it can be said they are not that good. Until that happens though, saying they are not good while they are 6-1 after 7 games and tied for the second best record in the league is pointless.

Over the long term, I’d rather be a team that the metrics say I should be 6-1 and am instead 2-5. Because that’s a team that has a chance.

The Giants have no chance over the long term to win anything of note, because statistically what they are doing can’t be replicated over large time scales.

Your statistical tendencies always catch up with you

They are getting a lot of help from their opponents and the refs. They got a very favorable spot today that should have been a first down for the Jags inside the Giants 20 yard line. Then, instead of kicking the FG to give themselves a 7 point lead they went for it on 4th down and ran a QB sneak which failed giving the Giants the ball and the momentum. Last week the Giants got 2 gifts late in the game from the Ravens. The Cowboys beat them by not giving them late Christmas presents.

The 9-7 Giants won a Super Bowl. Stats mean little when you win games.

Several years ago the Cowboys played the Manning-led Broncos. Romo threw for over 500 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Cowboys lost.

Against the Rams, Rush threw for 102 yards and 0 touchdowns. The Cowboys won.

The only thing that matters in the end is scoring more points than the other team. I don't care if the offense, defense and/or special teams gets the credit. I do not care if the other team plays horribly. The only thing that matters in the NFL is winning games.

You either win or you lose. The other stats only help with blame or hope.

if the team strength is the same you want to be 2-5 to get a better draft pick. this giants team is looking like the 2020 11-0 steelers. a bad team that had everything go their way until it didn't. quality of wins/losses actually matters believe it or not.

I am not talking about stats, I am talking about throwing the ball when we should be running it in certain situations.

This is not about Dak-vs-Rush as I really do not care who starts.

What I want is for them to call better plays and today there were a few times they passed when they should have been running the ball. There were also times they ran plays to the outside when they needed one or two yards and they should have just run it straight ahead.

I just want the team to play smart football and they were forced to do that with Rush, but with Dak, either through play-calling by Moore or by Dak changing the play, they reverted to questionable play calls at key moments.
Some odd short yardage calls this season. Hopefully they figure that out.

Rodgers loss to the Giants and Commanders....

Brady loss to a rebuilding sorry *** Panthers team and only managed 3 points.

I was told in week one that a good NFL quarterback is supposed to put his team in position to score more than 3 points in a half.... well Brady only managed 3 points in a whole game against arguably the worst team in the NFL.... the rebuilding Panthers with an interim coach and no McCaffrey.

I wonder what creative spin job my talented friends can come up with to explain this happening after saying a good quarterback should be able to score more than 3.... and Brady is a great quarterback.

I need everyone to look both ways before crossing the street. There will be many goal posts moving back and forth throughout the day. Be careful out there today family!!

Truly Gints 6-1 is surprising, week in week out they somehow manage to win.

But, they are not as bad as you make them to be , they played our game also close, but for our D’s improved play they could have won that game too.
Barkley is back

So many unpredictable results
How does the colts beat the same KC team we saw today
Dolphins beat the bills
Last 2 weeks from niners
Tanking panthers winning today
Many close calls by underdogs
I just think you got to bring it each week. If you’re not prepared any team get beat you. Detroit played inspired today they just wasn’t going to lay down for the boys

we need to bring it every week and I think the defense will . The offense needs to step up. The pre snap penalties have got to get cleaned up and our qb needs to knock the rust off quickly
yes alot of low scoring games too. also wash won today, heineke is back! dont know if that is temporary or not.
Seattle is leading the west lol with geno !

But it is good to see some new team rising up, some of them may make playoffs.

brady and that offense has been bad all season, they lost their OC from previous years, AB, gronk , some linemen and others.
Brady only has evans and sometimes godwin, weak OL.
Also brady himself is off, think it has to do with all the personal stuff.
So to sum it up brady isnt himself of the past, and neither is TB. It looks like they could still make playoffs, as they are still tied for 1st place ! lol

None of us should ever be surprised by the NFL’s surprising results. I’m always amused by fans who after less than half the season is done, act like they know which teams are headed to the SB. Way too much football to play to know that.

Only 1 time in Rush's starts did he throw it less than Dak did today.

Not sure which game you watched if you think we are back to being "pass happy" lol

Not the whole game , but the 1st 2-3 possessions were either Dak trying to do too much too soon or KM is calling passes (may be he thought Dak will get into rhythm ) ,bit too much . But they both settled down later, may be Big Mac chewed KM .

Great post.

I'm just glad that we can mathematically still make the playoffs even if they Eagles and Giants keep winning.

Their PFF metrics would predict them to be 2-5 right now. They’re winning in a highly unusual and unsustainable manner.

They don't need to sustain it. They just need four wins in their final 10 games and they are in the POs in a complete tear-down year.

Hard to see three NFCE not making the postseason this year.

Precisely. What are the Phillies doing this week? Anybody know?
