What happens now..?

Hiring a defensive HC with roots in the 3-4 leaves me with the impression we will again go defense with our top draft picks.

I'm assuming Phillips will sizeup the current roster and maybe want to draft whatever he feels will add to the cure of it's ills.

Lber...?

DL..?

DB..?

Or will the signing of Phillips mean that with his addition to the team, Dallas will feel that his presence is enough not to need to spend more high draft picks on the defense and that the defense can be improved without more costly investment..?

Will the draft then swing decidedly offensive, being that since Sparano, Garrett and Romo are going to need more help there to overcome their collective inexperience in running an NFL offense..?

Since Garrett and the offense are going to need help IMO, I think that is where we go strongly in the April draft...but where..?

WR..?

OT..?

OG..?

What about a QB to backup Romo..?

If Romo goes down, then what..?

If a talented passer is available, do you draft him early..?

FA will fill some of these holes, but do you want to keep signing offensive FAs that are going to keep making your offense older all the time..?

Had BP stayed here as HC..I was sure the draft would be another defensive harvest to try to fix it's problems. But not now with Phillips here.

This changes everything and we know Jerry Jones likes a lot of flash to go with his bling.

:lombardi:

Opinions welcome.

We'll see.

Very interesting.... I really do hope that we get a bigger stronger NT and I'm anxious to see if he keeps Carp on the outside, or move him inside. This is going to be a fun off season.

Frankly I think with Phillips as our new HC, we sign a FA RG (hopefully Diehlman of SD) which would take care of our major OL problem. Also concerned about Adams play and we better have a quality backup option available to seriously challenge him. Retaining Soprano in whatever position in the offense gets a jumpstart for Phillips cause he already knows all our offensive weaknesses but also has knowledge/judgement on whether McQuistan indeed has the talent to become a starting LT soon. We also will sign a vet backup QB who similar in play to Romo so offense can maintain continuity if he should get hurt. Also think that besides a RG we might also sign one other good offensive player (doubt Thompson makes team this year) cause Austin has shown he excellent returner and Thompson hasn't shown he anything other then straight ahead runner. It also possibly Phillips might be able bring 1-2 other of his boys from SD who can help us -- unfortunately of course not LT.

So I wouldn't be surprised if our first pick is either best CB avaiable when we draft unless he not good enough for our 22nd pick (moving Henry to FS) in first round. I do think Watkins is long term answer at FS but Henry will give us time while Watkins develops. Frankly I think we've got some good LBs; love Ware and Ayodele but also think Carpenter is a comer. It's James whose play wasn't up to it last year but who knows what can happen with a new coach. Either James improves this year or someone else steps in to take his place. But I do believe Phillips will get the best out of the players cause I really do believe our defense didn't buy into Parcells too conservative game plan. I do understand there was a lot of dissension on defense about this matter midway or more in the season. We've got a very young defense and young players are usually hard chargers who want to go and not just sit back.

I actaully don't mind going mostly offense in the draft, now that Phillips in on board. I think he can add a couple of players and still have a dominant defense.

I'd like to see us pick up a veteran Guard in FA, and on defense I'd like to pick up either a CB or FS, depending on Henry's situation.

Also, I think we need to look for a possible NT to rotate with Fergy in FA. I'm not sure how effective a rookie would be. Maybe Stanley can be that guy, but this is one position we should be on the look out for.

In the Draft, I think we have to go after 1 more pressure player to complement Ware. If we get the Guard in FA, as well as a CB/FS, this has to be a priority in the draft. (Ellis is a big question mark given his injury and age.)

I'd look to draft a WR to groom behind Glenn/TO as well. And I'd also look for depth on the OL and a 3rd RB later in the Draft.
