As for your second question, I don't recall that ever being the case. I think last year's participants had nothing to do with the inductees. I'd have to do a quick check to make sure.
I never thought the teams participating in the HOF game had any intentional relevance as to who was being inducted.
A little research shows that 5 of the last 6 games did indeed have at least one team play that had a related inductee.....but nothing shows that both teams did.
In the 80s, best as I can tell, only
once did a team play that had a direct tie to an inductee in the same year.
...Dallas has never won a HOF game.
...There is only one player in the HOF that

....A rule that makes me wonder what if.....If it requires an 80% up vote to be selected, and we know no more than 6 and no less than 3 can be selected in a single year....is it possible that none of the 6 finalists receive the 80%?
