but most of the guys that we would be interested in that cost big bucks are gone.. Peterson, Vinatieri.. I just dont see what releasing a still very solid guard like LA does for us if we dont make some moves to replace him.. I dont want that money just sitting there.. Now im sure we will sign some people, but now we have a buttload of dough to spend.. Im sure we will be getting a pretty good kicker, but who else? Arrington isnt coming here.. so I dont see another big free agent on whom we will be spending the extra dough.. any ideas?

Yes, I'm for signing up Witten & the other 3 games long-term. Heck, maybe Witten can even spend rest of offseason learning to kick.

I agree with the whole locking up guys like Witten, Roy, Newman and everything BUT... the salary cap is raising every year, and I know it will be even higher next year.. so we will have even more to spend next year.. I think we could do a little locking up this year and more next year.. but the consensus seems to be that we are making that big super bowl push this year.. lets get who we can..

And when Witten lights up the NFL when all the attention is on Terrell Owens, will he want a monster contract then? Wouldn't it be nice to know he is locked up long term so that when the cap does go up we know how much we have to spend?

Lock up Witten and Roy this year. Get them untill they are 33. Use the extra money we have now and do it quickly.

im sorry but it wouldnt take 15 million to lock up 3 players (James, Witten, Williams) TNEWMAN HAS 3 YEARS LEFT! so i mean them plus rookie signings still leaves us with enough to sign:
1. Veteran Kicker
2. Veteran FS
3. Veteran FB
4. Another big signing
the release of larry allen basically covers the cost of rookie signings and a veteran FS. so then we still have 11 million+ for a Vet Kicker, FB and another signing.

Kicker costs us 1.5 or less
FB costs us even less than that
and then we still have about 9 million left for the locking up youngans and another big pick-up. remember the signing of Anthony Henry in late April? or was that aaron glenn? whichever it was we made a big signing in late april, and it is only late march as of right now.

Well, I looked at Pro Footballs top 50 prospects,
players like Tom Ashworth, Steve Neal, Sam Adams, Ty Law
Charles Woodson, John Runyan, and Mike Vanderj.. are still out there.

We got an OT, so maybe Steve Neal, or Sam Adams or Ty Law at safety.
I am leary of Charles Woodson, he has had injury problems last 4-5 years.

Of course Josh Brown is available for 7th round draft choice.

Other option maybe their thinking about resigning Keyshawn, talks in Giants were put on hold, he said he still wanted to look at Carolina & Seattle. He
also said he thought he could get more money than what Giants were offering.

Its doubtful we will resign Larry Allen, maybe, or they are letting him hit the market, so they can show him, he cant get 7.5 million dollars from anyone this year. Also remember he had 1 million or 2 million roster bonus due on April 1st.

Dallas had till April 1st to cut Allen or restructure him, so I am thinking Dallas is fixing to spend that money on someone, maybe 2 players. A kicker and guard for insurance.

Rumor is that he missed the first 2 days of workouts- now whether he was told to stay away or not is the question. If he was not- then that probably set it off.Or he refused to restructure. But I am thinking that since restructuring still maintains the length of the contract- the BOys might have wanted him to take a cut and .....

I really dont see us pursuing a OLB in FA.. sitting at 18 in the draft,, would land us a very good olb cheaper than signing a FA. I hope we get neal.. but who knows, maybe the next LA is already on our roster. FS, maybe lance s.. but i expect that to be a draft issue as well. I really don't think a FB is one of our needs at all. I think this FA Money will be spent on a kicker, maybe a lot OL pickup,, and then sign our young guys to long term.. all in all,, that would be a very good Off season.

TEAM NEEDS + (some other hopeful additions):

Oline
: Steve Neal would be nice at a good price since he would add depth, since Oline took a big fall last year and he would be another option to help prevent that from happening again. as for Allen he will only come back in Late april if hes not gone by then and if he realizes what we pay him is the best he will get, dont count on him to be wearing a star next season. everywhere could still be addressed to atleast add depth.

Safety: Ty Law is old and has just as many injury issues as Charles Woodson, the two of them would just provide assurance at the position for a very short period of time 1-2 years maybe a lil more. and the money factor is big on both of them. i like the idea of coleman, especially since hes friends with Glenn and could provide the same veteran presence as any of the others, this will definately be a day1 concern in the draft. SS we are set. BRING BACK WOODSON!

Kicker: with Vandy on the market probably til the end of this week i see us taking Brown for cheaper or Mare since he has Rosenhaugh and we may have inside info on if he is going to be cut or not and that may be why we arent acting as quick as some fans hope. Punter we are set.

WR: We got the money for keyshawn after the release of LA but i mean he is gonna go to Seattle IMO, he fits in well with hasselbeck and put talks with giants on hold to go see Seattle and cuz they werent paying what he wanted. we are doing fine at this position and id rather have us address FS with coleman and then Sowell at FB before we think about KEY again. BTW Carolina said they are happy with their receivers dont think he'll go there. TE we are set.

OLB: Arrington is the only interesting FA left, but he doesnt want to be here and we have the draft to look forward to . . . as for middle linebacker we are set with James, Ayodele, Shanle, Fowler, Burnett (OLB/MLB).

DT/NT: we need somebody behind Ferguson, Sam Adams would be a nice backup but i dont think we will persue him. this will probably go into the draft to and be addressed in a later round. DE we are set.

Backup QB: Veteran PLEASE, im scared of golfers and baseball players, lets bring in Volek for cheap or get Brooks for even cheaper. (draft is highly unlikely)

1. Jerald Sowell/Fred Beasley
2. Stephen Neal
3. Marcus Coleman
4. Mike Vanderjagt/Olindo Mare/Josh Brown

I want Mare 1, but he's not available currently. Brown 2, but he'd require a pick. Vandy third. I like him but requires a kickoff man.

1. Beasley would be expensive and worth every penny, he is 10 times the player Polite is.
2. I dont see us signing another Olineman, IMO we will pick at least two in the draft.
3. Coleman/Bashir would be perfect for our system, make it happen Jerruh!!!
4. Brown or Mare i dont care who we sign just make sure Suisham/Cundiff arent kicking FG's next year.

thats exactly my point!! everyone seems so fixated on signing these guys up to long term contracts, but it wont cost nearly as much as we have.. honestly, with all this money they knew they were gonna have, i would have LOVED to see us get Vinatieri and Julian Peterson.. I mean, the money we save from Larry Allen being cut is $1 million MORE than it would have cost to sign Vinatieri!! I mean, I believe Jerry and Bill have a plan, but I just dont like the options we have left..
