There won't be cap next year, but the owners/players union wisely made this a horrible situation for everyone.

-Players must have 6 years experience before they are eligiable for unristricted free agency.
-Severe restrictions on playoff teams that stop the rich, from getting richer.

yeah, but as much as the players union believes they won't allow the cap back, I think it'll be back for the 2011 season. Owners hold too many cards and waiting 6 years for free agency really means less money than the salary cap.

that isn't necessarily true -- there is a plan in place if there is no cap -- but this is not about eliminating the cap, it is about how high that cap is going to go in the next CBA.

The fact is that if the league goes to a "no cap" there is no way the owners are going to agree to a situation where player FA eligibility occurs any time before 6 years of service. And the player's union would far prefer a cap to FA not starting until 6 years of service.

The biggest reason we all need to root for a new CBA isn't because of no cap. The biggest reason is because if they don't come to an agreement on a CBA you can put it in the bank that in 2011 there will be a strike or lockout and no football for a period of time. Speaking as someone who has hated 2 of those already, get the CBA done.

I actually dont think they will work something out till after next season. From things ive read and heard on nfl network ,espn etc. But i dont expect any teams to really take advantage of this either. Imo the new cba will probably really punish any team who attempted abuse of the uncapped year . Ie probably the Commanders. I think things will go pretty smoothly and with everyone in expectation of a new cba . Things shouldnt be much different than in years past. Some teams may cut some players but other than that we wont see much of a difference anyone agree ?

I'm betting there will be a few games missed in 11.

A Hos has so clearly pointed out, this is not good news. Both sides are pretty dug in and 2011 could be a year without the NFL. As one who has seen two work stoppages, it would royally suck. Any discussion of teams "taking advantage" of the situation doesn't reflect the reality of a league that has a serious problem.

Great.

I dont think players stay on their teams long enough now as it is. You invest 4 years in a player and he jets off somewhere else? Where is the sense in that.

I think once your drafted by a team, you should STAY with that team unless you're traded, cut or your contract expires and you dont re-sign.

I hate this part. Like I always say, punishing teams for being good.

Pretty sure that's considered the 2010 season, so likely it won't affect that SB. It's the next one that would be affected. Or am I wrong?

Edited to add: The thought of a season without football is just too sad to contemplate. Here's hoping they get everything straightened out. : (

I pray that something gets done. I don't know what I'd do without football if there was a strike in 2011.

I didn't expect them to strike the first time or the second but I expect them to strike and for there to be a lockout this time just because they struck the last two times.
