So What Did You Expect? by Rafael Vela

Ah Someone Gets it.

We are starting so many young players with a new system yet people act like we should win every game, every time.

It takes time for a young team to gel.

Think of this for how much this team has changed.

If I heard correctly there are only SEVEN players on this team now that were on this team when Bill was hired as HC.

SEVEN PLAYERS.

That is a BIG turn around in such a short time.

For the most part I agree, but what everyone is upset about is that despite being young and needing to gel, we took defeat from the jaws of vicotry. Those two losses were a hard pill to swallow. Imagine what being 4-0 would have done to the confidence of this team, instead, because of the two losses and the way they happened, they are doubting themselves.

I predicted a 9-7, 10-6 year for the 'boys, and still think they will get there. I think that this defense will be sacry in the second half. But then again, we do have Zimmy as the defensive coordinator.................

We took defeat from the jaws of victory in two games...and we took victory from the jaws of defeat in two others.

Which really does boil down to what a young team is until they learn and gel...inconsistent

This was a very good article and accurately describes where this team is at on the learning curve

I went and counted the roster yesterday and the results were very surprizing even to me because I realize how different this team is from last year.

1. There are 21 new players on the active roster who weren't on this teams active roster last year. That's a 40% turnover in one year
2. Of those 21 new players 10 are rookies. That is 19% of the roster which are rookies.
3. There are 4 new offensive starters. That is 36% of the offensive starters.
4. There are 5 new defensive starters including 1 rookie. That is 45% of the defensive starters. Plus they are learning a entirely new system.
5. The defensive rotation include 7 new players getting pretty significant playing time among those are 4 rookies.

As Parcells says this team is what it is, and that is a team which is in a major reconstuction period just like this writer says. And while quite a number of potential star players have been added in the off-season, It really should surprize no-one that this team will have to find its identity, I can't imagine anyone realistic expecting anything different. If this team were to gel next week that would be great, but history shows it can take a year or more before a team finds itself...

While this post is certainly hopeful - I'm not convinced it's accurate. The only viable comparison of this team to the '90 team is on D. The major players on O are all old and certainly not "up-and-coming." Yes, I know JJ is a 2nd year guy.

Moreover, this coaching staff has a completely different attitude. They are not trying to prove they belong - except maybe Zimmer and Pas. - they are mostly established and to a large part are coaching on reputation as much as knowledge.

This team may start putting all the pieces together later in the year, but by then it may be too late.

Not a bad read, but nothing to write home about ether...
I see plays that are a result of awful coaching...
I guess its just too easy to blame young PLAYERS though...

Witten 3rd year, Jones 2nd year, Crayton 2nd year. That's three skill positions right there.
