So what do they do now about a backup QB

Well unless you're Nostradamus it's not exactly gotta be the fifth round LOL

I think the Cowboys are gonna surprise us and move around and package pics they have so many extra compensatory picks..

I think they could package some of those 5ths and move up into the 4th, if they targeted somebody whether it be a quarterback or somebody else, but I think they could take a quarterback earlier in that case but you never know San Francisco got rock Purdy the last player taken in the draft we've seen Tom Brady going to six I know it's unusual but undrafted free agent Tony Romo Kurt Warner those type of dudes like you never know when you're gonna accidentally just fall into one.

I have a feeling might not be the only round they do this in they could move around up and down and get more quality players in the top 4 rounds and they have slotted right now and still get the guys they targeted. I'm not sure why but it's just a gut feeling they're gonna do a lot more movement in this draft than they have in a very long time...

Good post, totally agree Dallas will move around a lot in this draft. And a qb will be drafted in later rounds.

Sanders is falling like a Rock. He's my candidate to skid out of Rd 1 completely. Then at 44 Dallas drafts him.

I think two of those three are on the board as far as going in the first 3 rounds and again depending on how they maneuver up and down they could get 4 picks in the first 3 rounds... I believe because of Louis leaving diggs and Butler being hurt rehabbing injuries, and who knows when they get back..Carson MUk and AO are not starter ready guys. depth yes but we new TWO CBs IMHO..

we really don't have any corners except for bland to start game one,

I think they could go for a cornerback at #12.. I'm not even sure how strong the corners are in this draft other than Hunter likely gone, and the Michigan Corner..

I haven't really paid attention, but it just seems like all signs are pointing towards that could be their top pick. Which is crazy because I think people are going to be upset and the only thing, I've heard is Michigan has three players going in the first Round, 2 are defensive tackles, and one's a corner and nobody around here really likes the Michigan picks, but what if it's the Michigan corner..

So, our first-round pick probably is a Michigan player and that's not going to go well here lol..
I agree about corners. The board thinks we need receivers but they have 5 already on the roster that know their roles. CeeDee is the star. Tolbert is the number 2, Mingo is big bodied blocker, Turpin is the big play threat, Jaylon is the special teams ace. Plus we have Ferguson and Schoonmaker at tight end.

I would love to see Dallas trade down maybe 5 slots, pick up an extra 3rd, then take Dart in the first. It's totally not happening.
Honestly this is the type of move that wouldn't shock me. I know its not the most likely scenario, but I struggle to rule it out either in a trade down scenario. We know they did meet with Dart so there is some level of interest from the Cowboys. If you can pick up an extra day 2 pick and get a round 1 QB it might be worth the gamble.

Dallas will draft a QB in the 5th round to hold the clipboard and learn, and Will Grier who played at West Virginia Will be the back up.He is already signed to the roster.
How confident are you with wil Grier being able to bus drive manage this team into a couple of emergency backup wins ..vs what cooper rush did ?

Pretty confident I think he can do as good or better than Rush, he just needs the 2nd team reps.

I bet they sign C.J. Beathard (played in Jacksonville when Schotty was there in 2021) and use a day three pick on a developmental guy.

The are going to draft a QB.
It's a free swing because ANY guy they take makes the roster.

The guys I keep getting in mocks: Dillon Gabriel, Tyler Shough, Kyle McCord.

This move is about getting a cheap QB not finding a future starter.

We shouldn't be confident at all in Grier as anything but the emergency #3 guy. Unless they sign someone better I'm assuming they will be going backup qb via the draft.

Cooper Rush was a late bloomer, but at least showed us he can play in this league in his late 20s. Grier is about to be 30 years old, hasn't played since 2019, and keeps bouncing around practice squads because no one wants him. Grier is probably closer to being out of the league than he is a viable backup option at this point.

Yes the Cowboys have actually made statements that they want a young developmental QB on the roster. They thought Lance would be that guy but it looks like it will be a day three pick instead.

My guess is they think Grier can be the main backup but the rookie will also get a shot at the #2 spot in camp in theory.

Since we don't have the team to go all the way, just doesn't matter. Get some young guy like Brady Cook in the 5th or later. Love to take a flyer on Graham Mertz, FL, who tore his ACL midway thru season. Late rounds only.

Are you talking about S.Sanders the quarterback?

yeah you could keep believing that we've seen what quarterbacks are picked in the top 15 in the first round.

he qualifies and he's probably going to go in the top five, whoever selling you this bill of goods is doing it because they want him to fall to them, there's just too many quarterbacks needed for a bunch of teams even if he slipped there's no way he gets past the team like the Steelers but there are teams hovering in that same range 15 to 21 that would for sure take him doesn't matter if he's slipping in the draft people's eyes quarterbacks are pretty much taken in this year's a week draft in the first Round Top 15 it's just a sad truth of how bad people need quarterbacks... They're the one position that teams reach for how do you think Trey Lance had three first rounders to move up and get him of all people...

I haven't heard that at all maybe you talking about his brother is maybe a fourth-round prospect?

Rush is 31.

I disagree you can do both it can mean both things you're looking for your future starter and you hope it is the guy you pick but if not you keep picking him because you're not gonna have to pay them and you get rid of them and you keep rotating them until you find one that's the hard truth about quarterback in the NFL they're hard to find unless you're picking in the top three every year with a lot of teams are and they still took decades to find their replacements but I disagree it's not about cheap you can go get cheap quarterbacks even in journeyman veterans it has everything to do with young fresh rookie quarterback that possibly could be the next guy that is why you do that this is the only reason they pick Prescott in the fourth round he was supposed to be developmental he had enough grades on him that said he could have went higher he was there they took him and ended up he had to start as a rookie and it turns out he was better than they thought...

It happens all the time you don't think that Brock Purdy was just supposed to be a camp arm you know a guy possibly make the roster and he turned out to be good that's why teams do it stop calling them cheap if they wanted cheat you could find that in just about any quarterback that you deem as a backup..

Tell y'all though and and I don't understand recent history says they just paid Cooper rush $3,000,000 or somewhere around there with bonuses it might have been more they also paid 5.5 million for Trey Lance last year we had backups making $8 million and you say they're too cheap if they were cheap they would have never picked up the 5th year option on Trey Lance whatever it is they did to pay him all that money to be the emergency third quarterback that played one game started one game you calling them cheap you know what that's just a bad narrative...

Rush is 31.
He is now, but he was what 27 or 28 when he really took over the backup QB job and showed that he can play in this league in the Minnesota game a few years ago? The point I was trying to make is that Rush was a late bloomer but still showed us more than Grier has by the time he was Griers age. Stranger things have happened but being an unknown and 30 in the NFL is not a likely combo for success.
