So what do we do about this running game?

I still can't believe how poorly we run the ball. For the expert film watchers here, what is it? Is our line just that poor, can we not move people, are backs reading the wrong hole, all of it?

I was at least encouraged to see Garret pull out that delayed draw that Barber used to kill it on, since we are such a pass happy team. IMHO they need to incorporate that play back in since we are a passing offense and when at least Miles or Dez is out there with Witten should have some threats to keep the D worried.

It seems the other team easily jumps on our runs, like they can tell its coming very easily. Any thoughts? thanks

Not sure, but I think we're just getting out-muscled at the point of attack.

We also aren't getting barely any second level blocks, so opposing linebackers are always free to make a play.

The 49ers also havent given up a 100 yard rusher since like, 09 or something too I heard. So it could just be that they're good.

We just need to see more of it.

We've played 2 good run defenses at their house.

...we are getting straight up whipped at the point of attack: especially Kosier....he's just horrible.:bang2:

The Niners and Jets were #2 and #3 in yards allowed per carry last year. Both were Top 6 overall in run D.

If we can't get some sort of a running game going vs. Washington, then I'd start to worry.

Don't go overboard with it...Kosier is not horrible.

He's been bad this year. I can't believe it.

It makes me wonder what he did during the lockout.

You keep working and try to improve.

we play some of the best run defenses in the league and we have basically a rookie starting line. We need to give them a couple of weeks to figure it out and mail a letter to Red Head and tell him running plays are for Runningbacks and to run more :)

Given how little continuity there is with this OL ... it is far from surprising that they have difficulty running.

If you sit back and think about how many changes there have been to that OL and just how little time they have played together ... it is fairly amazing.

Gotta wonder how this unit will deal with Detroit ....

That's a fair point too, we've played some stout run D's...hopefully thats it. Hopefully more time together, more seasoning will help too.

I mean the Jets and 49ers have good running games too wouldn't you say?

Look how those run games did against us....

That Dline of Detroit is a huge concern, Romo nursing broken ribs and a inexperienced and young O line protecting him is not a pleasant thought. I would expect a lot of 2 TE sets and max protect and hope Tony makes it out of the game in one piece.

I'm just glad Fairley won't be in there. When he was drafted I was dreading this game even before the changes to our O-line.

this is critical IMO
multiple issues,

new OL,
young OL,
playing teams with very good run defenses,
i am not sure felix is a #1 carry the load kind of RB, etc, etc

hopefully this gets better going forward or we will get romo killed

romo really saved us yesterday
the way he stepped up in the second half was the difference

but he cant keep doing this
he will need help and a good running game is a QBs best friend

I doubt we'll have a great running game this season but the problems where magnified a bit by playing 2 of the best run defenses in the league in the first 2 weeks and we got another one in 2 weeks in the Lions. If it can't at least be decent against the Skins then it's time to worry.

..I live in Michigan and saw the KC game yesterday: 48-3 and it could have been worse as Schwartz called off the dogs with 5 minutes to go. And BELIEVE me they have some DOGS....Suh, Williams, Avril, Vandenbosch....jeebus can they bring it. I choose not to think about that game right now. Seriously.

A combination of good run defenses, young oline and mediocre running backs.
I expect it to be better, but getting to average looks like it will be difficult.
Also, if Murray doesn't materialize, our RB situation is looking pretty weak the next year or two.
