So what exactly happened with Tony Jefferson

Just after the season we were all looking at Jefferson as a potential 2nd round pick at FS and now just a few months later he is a 5th rounder. So what exactly happened for him to make that dramatic of a drop off? I heard rumors of Oklahoma coaches bashing his work ethic, but no one ever came out and actually said anything specific and when asked Oklahoma denied it. So was that alone enough to drop him that far? Or is there something in the tape that I missed? He does have some lapses in pass coverage in taking bad angles and getting beat on double moves, but to me thats just a matter of being coached up.

So anyone else he could be a steal of a 4th round pick?

Heres a pretty good write up on him from walterfootball

And a pretty good video from yahoo sports

Well, he doesn't have ideal size for the position and his speed is not all that great, especially when you figure he's on the smaller size. He doesn't have great work ethic, according to rumors, he doesn't take coaching well, according to rumors and he has poor tackling technique.

Basically, that's what I've heard on the guy.

I recall 2-3 guys on the board having that kind of regard for Jefferson, but there was usually very rapid opposition.

I've never seen him as someone I'd take earlier than the 4th.

You may be right in thinking as we get later in the draft he'd be someone worth looking at.
I think safeties may go in clusters this year because so many teams have holes there now. Guess we'll see..

I love Jefferson, but he doesn't have very good measurables for the position. Watch him vs. WV and he just looks awful.

I don't know if he has the athleticism to be a starter at FS, sadly.

A guy I would much rather consider in the 4th or 5th round would be Duke Williams.

Vacarro measured at 6' 214 and Jefferson was 5'11 213. That 1 inch doesn't mean a thing so don't think his size is holding him back. Swearinger is 5'11 208 and most likely a 2nd round pick.

And I think his 40 time is a little misleading. He definitely not a burner, but he plays much faster than a 4.75. I'd say realistically in the 4.6'something range.

Have it your way but the fact of the matter is that he's 5'11" and he ran a 4.64 with his fast time being 4.54.

Vaccaro, on the other hand, ran a 4.59 with his fast time being a 4.48.

Basically, Vaccaro ran a very fast time for the position and a slow time for the position while Jefferson ran a very average time and a ridiculously slow time. Add in the other stuff and I don't think it's very hard to see why he's falling in the draft.

I think Jefferson will be a steal for someone in this draft. He was one of the few difference makers on that OU defense. Count me as one of the guys that says the Cowboys should be all over him if he lasts until the 5th round. Stills is a guy who would be a steal in the 4th round as well. Landry Jones is a guy I would look at in the 3rd or later.

That would be good value for each of those players. Much like Murray in the 3rd and Hanna in the 6th.

Another words, if drafted, he has the skills to complete for a starting spot at safety? :)

Not in a Tampa2 scheme IMO. I don't think he fits that scheme very well.

He is a gamer.

I like Earl Wolff NC State as well on the backend of the draft, he could be there in the 5th and he has great instincts on the ball. Good tackler.

NFL.com had him listed as a sleeper. Don't know how they will weight it but he's had multiple arrests.

It's still funny how Kyle longs past gets overlooked by Dallas but everyone else is off the board. Gotta love Dallas.

He was seriously injured versus WVU but playing anyway.

I do believe his injury has effected his status and did OU simply not being as good on defense as predicted. He was a guy who looked worse than anticipated for many reasons and those guys fall. Much like DeMarco Murray did.

But I'd take him as a cover 2 safety in round 4 without question. He can and will hit people and he can cover zones/areas of the field.

Oh good, that makes me feel better about him. He's been my favorite safety throughout this process....I was wondering why he looked so bad vs Wv.
