So what exactly is the problem with the running game?

Are our running backs just not talented enough to find holes and break tackles? Or is our o-line not as good as we thought? Or is it both? Clearly there is a problem because we haven't had a consistent running game for the past 2 years.

You can't continually run a HB dive into the mouth of a run blitz or 8 man front. Not to mention that we have TE (whos undersized) trying to play the FB roll. It would be nice to see our staff use Dunbar/Randle on some toss and sweeps, but that would require creativity, and thats unheard of with this staff.

You beat me to it. Pretty much sums it up.

Pretty much everything, topped by a total lack of commitment to running the ball.

The Lions have one of the best run-defending defensive fronts in football. Hard to judge it based on this week.

Having said that, its a combination of not making holes and then the backs not hitting them. There is no one thing to point to I dont think.

giving up on the run, running on obvious downs/formations, lack of holes being made, lack of real quality at rb position.. etc etc

The Lions defensive front is actually playing pretty horrible against the run. Giving up 4.7 yards per rush which is good for 4th worst in the NFL.

But anyway its a running theme.....

We averaged 3.2 to yards per rush against a putrid Eagles defense.
2.5 Against the crappy Commanders.
3.4 VS the Broncos.

There's a big problem with the running game. I'm not saying we have to run the ball 30 times a game every game, but its going to be hard to maintain any kind of offensive consistency if we can't at least get 4 yards a rush.

We don't run block well.

We pitched out to Dunbar once or twice and it worked. Where was that on the next to last drive? Oh Garrett was afraid of fumbling. Playing not to lose got us a loss.

Our running game looks pretty good when Demarco is in there. Not too hard to figure it out in my eyes: Demarco is very talented, our other guys are not.

By the way, I read that Demarco could have played this week but the medical staff wanted to be cautious and wait one more week. We almost got away with it too. But I think it may have cost us a win.

Exactly. And here's what I don't get. On 2nd and 13, they run right into the teeth of the defense. But then pass on 3rd and 14? Lol.

This thing is a mess.

The Lions were hell bent stopping the run and playing the DB close to the line. How we never took advantage of that with quick passes....
