Has anyone picked up anything technical that Scandrick is or isn't doing?

He looked so good his rookie season and it's been down hill since then.

The problem is film.

Once teams got the drop on him they knew how to expose him. A lot of rookies look better than they are but in this league once teams pick up on your tendencies and deficiencies, you better correct them.

He looks about the same to me to be honest. His biggest problem always has been his ability to pick up and play the ball. He just out and out sux at it. He normally (not always, but normally) is right with his guy and looks tehnically sound just on staying with his guy, but he sux at playing the ball. I think some of it is he fears making mistakes, and you cant play CB that way. I also tthink some of it is bad coaching.

That's a fair approximation... So what are those tendencies that are killing him? Anyone have any idea?

I also think that having piss poor safeties behind our CBs don't help things.

Campo strikes me as a guy that the players don't take serious. Or anyone takes serious for that matter.

I'm no scout but he doesn't turn his hips very well, he has a decent backpeddle and breaking speed - but he's horrible going sideline to sideline. He's awful at playing the ball in the air, going for it at its highest point, and anything else that can be described as ball skills. Which is ironic because his scouting report suggested otherwise. He also played a lot of man and press coverage in college, which you'd think would help him in the slot.

He also takes poor angles when it comes to tackling and once the ball is in the air.

I think he just the 'feel' for the position and relies on athletic ability to keep him close. And he's not the most gifted athlete either.

Good point about him being better in man-to-man coverage schemes.

But doesn't it seem that this defense is playing a lot of zone?

He had a similar MO in college; real good as a freshmen, then he slowly became more average by the time he left.

In my estimation his biggest problem is his lack of ball awareness. He's a guy who has no sense of when a where a ball will be delivered. He's a reactionary type player; he has the athletic ability to shadow a receiver but doesn't have the instincts to make plays.

When is the last time any of us has seen Scandrick actually make a break or play on a ball?

I think he's a very good athlete, but for the all the reasons you stated above it nullifies that ability.

He was overrated his rookie year. As has been mentioned in this thread, he does a decent job of shadowing his man, but he makes very few on the ball plays. It was the same his rookie year, but the defense played better at that time then they currently are.

His tackling has also regressed, and I wonder if the finger injury has hampered both the tackling and the willingness to stick his hand in to deflect passes.

The problem is he simply can't play at the NFL level. He doesn't appear to know what he's doing in coverage, ever.

He's useless out there. We'd do just as good lining up one of our linebackers on his guy.

Not trying to be funny here, but I think he has to first locate the ball before we can even expect him to make a play on the ball.

He's simply not even doing that.

There are several guys in the secondary that look lost when it comes to coverage responsibilities.

I agree, and I'm not one to pile on a player and be overly critical. Having said that, Scandrick is baaaaaad.

Newman is getting older. Jenkins is sucking something fierce. Scandrick, too. Brooking is done. James isn't anything special. We have FA's in Hatcher, Bowen, and Spears on the DL.

There are a lot of problems, defensively.

I don't know but the TD pass he gave up was just a great play by Manning.
