So, what kind of advice did Parcells give the A-Train?

Parcells quote:
"It wasn't exactly a two-way discussion. I hope so because I was trying to give him real good advice. Real good advice, something I truly believe to be the situation. I would never try to tell a player something I didn't believe to be true. I would never do that. I told him exactly what I thought where he was in this world and I'm hopeful he's receptive to it."

So then, does anyone know what Parcells may have said to the A-train? What kind of advice did he get, and what does Parcells mean by "where he was in this world "? If anyone knows please post it. Thanks!

No, that was A Train.

He probably told him his best years are done and he's a career backup now.

Hes 26, or 27, he has years left. but I think Bill told him someting like this is your last chance, or else this Marion Barber guy I keep hearing about will get some time.

Well Latuna said it best. She posted this in the PC recap thread...

That particular message - what a player is and where he stands in the league, not just the in the team - is one Bill has often mentioned as helpful to the players who are on the cusp, or still fighting a battle with themselves by thinking they are starters..thinking they're feature backs, not third downers, or top cover corners when they're really nickle backs, etc.

He's often said a player must understand not just his role, but how to secure long term employment - and sometimes that means carving a niche for himself that won't be leading to Monday morning headlines.

The message is you can help the team AND yourelf by being what you are to the best of your ability, not by thinking you are what you're not.

Must be a hard message to swallow for any former starter, or any player who wants to start, but Bill sure has had a lot of role players who did what they did very well, and that gave them longevity in the league.

I bet Merriman disagrees with this statement.

He told him he's a back who was just signed a 1 year, near vet minimum contract this offseason so he's not exactly a hot commodity around the league. He probably also told him that they offered his services to the Saints, but they decided they would rather trade for Jesse Chatman ... so maybe he needs to rethink that whole demanding more playing time stuff, and just be thankfull he's not selling life insurance in Duluth.

BP sat A-train down and said,

"You're one step out the door son. Stop complaining. Work your hump off and you MAY be here an extra year. No other team wants you. Get over it. You're lucky you had an NFL career. If you want to flip burgers, keep pizzing me off!!! TT has surpassed you in the depth chart. A freakin' rookie, undrafted FA. You need to work harder if you wanna backup a URFA."

In short, BP said, "I can replace you in a heartbeat".

Hee hee. I suppose he really meant "I would never tell a player ON MY TEAM something I didn't believe to be true."...

Parcells most likely told him to do his talking on the field. An average slightly over 1ypc ain't getting it done.
