So what really needs to be secured for a deep and protected dominant defense, now?

I find alphas annoying in everyday life but for a football team, yes, you need a bunch.
Annoying or not still relies on morales and ethics. Otherwise team is lost and privileges direct.

There never was the right way to do the wrong thing. At any level of social roles.

Speed of play and carrying out roles to standard. That is much more important than a fistful of fan heroes. Even 'rooks' can have influences on team dependent play. Fact and not just attitudes.

The real 'fool' is blind to all but ego.

What happens on the carpet is what counts...not attitudes by 'fans.'

I also like Lewis and our 'rook.' Both are Cowboys raised! :starspin:

Yea I dont know about all that. All I know is we'll never amount to anything until our best players play with some sort of fire on defense from the top defenders You won't find a championship defense without it. Not 1.

To dominate on defense you have to consistently be able to stop the run and get after the QB. It all starts upfront. We’re lacking upfront and have for a long time.
This is a passing dominant sport now. The run helps in putting linebackers on their heels; dominating the clock and yardage; and turn-overs. Elements of the sports and winning.

Defensing the run is both straight up the middle and outside. That reflects coaching and schemes chosen during the game itself.

You are absolutely missing the boat as to defensive ends. Linebackers as a unit are on the upswing as are the defensive tackles.

Discipline is leadership directed. There is commitment every where and physicality is common throughout the league. One just won't find 'cowards' any where. Teams have to be coordinated and that comes from leadership instilled discipline. Smart is the leadership contribution when it empowers those players to succeed, despite natural tendencies.

Stand the test of time and not numbers attained, movie star ammo in sport.

Is it now? Funny how it's a passing league but we keep losing in the playoffs because we can't stop the run.

Our Corners are plenty good. We need DT’s that can play the run and push the pocket straight back on pass plays. Let the DE’s speed rush all day!

Dallas signed defensive end Earnest Brown IV to the active roster on Wednesday. Brown is a homegrown product who played high school ball in Denton, Tex. before going to Northwestern as a four-star recruit. He was selected in the fifth round of 2021’s draft by the Los Angeles Rams and won a Super Bowl ring with that team as a rookie, though he never saw the field in his first year.

The 6-foot-5-inch, 300-pounder remained with the Rams for two more seasons, getting in 12 games before becoming a free agent. He landed in Tampa Bay for the 2024 campaign and saw action in three midseason contests for the Buccaneers but played fewer than two dozen total snaps.

While Brown will be eligible to play in Sunday’s season finale, his addition at this late date is more likely a signal that the Cowboys are interesting in inking the soon-to-be 26-year-old to a reserve/futures contract once the regular season is concluded.

Defensive tackle Justin Rogers has been signed off Cincinnati’s practice squad, according to the team. He takes the roster spot of linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who has officially been placed on season-ending injured reserve after suffering a devastating knee injury versus the Bengals on Dec. 9.

Rogers was drafted by the Cowboys in the seventh round of 2024’s draft, selected 244th overall. After spending training camp with the team, he was released on Aug. 26 and signed by the Bengals three days later...

The 6-foot-2-inch, 340-pounder caught the eye of several observers in Oxnard this summer with not only his size but the run-stop skills he showed at Auburn as a college senior and prior to that at Kentucky.

“Been keeping an eye on him,” head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters Thursday. “Fortunate to have the opportunity to bring him back. We still consider him one of ours. … Obviously, we thought enough of him to draft him, so it’ll be great to get him back into the mix.”

I mean first of all IMO, we need to get a good DC. We need to find an identity and establish a physicality on defense. On the outside, you have Micah, Kneeland, Golston, and Sam Williams coming off IR. They will likely resign Parsons, the next matter I would try to fix is who is the pass rusher on the other side of him. We have been trying to establish a 1/2 punch as DE for years. Ware/Spencer, Gregory/Lawrence, Parsons/Lawrence/Williams. We have to find someone to cause havoc on the other side of Parson. Kneeland reminds me of Tank, a good run defender and occasional pass rusher. Williams still has potential but even last year before he was injured, he was inconsistent and showed signs of needed maturity.

Second, they need to figure out what they are going to do with Osa at DT. If they are bringing him back, they need to address finding an upgrade at the 1 Tech. Smith has improved but they need competition and depth at that spot. They need a big bodied run stuffer. If they dont bring Osa back, they need to find two DT's. They need to established a physical front 4. They need to establish a consistent pass rush so they can alleviate pressure on secondary.

Third, they need to solidify the LB spots. I love Overshown but with his major injury its time to put him to the side and let him heal, and not assume he is going to return back to where he was this year and if he does cool but cant depend on that happening. Marist was a good pick. He has played well, and shown alot of promise. Kendricks has been solid, I would brining him back for cheap. Clark- I liked him but he just kinda fell of the Earth. He was a healthy scratch quite a few times this year. Leaves quite a few holes at LB.

Fourth, the secondary- just needs to get healthy. Diggs needs to rehab and get healthy. Bland needs to stay healthy and get back in the mix. We should resign Lewis for 1 to 2 years. Carson didnt play bad this year but was injured. Hooker and Wilson is solid and Bell needs to get healthy. They have made some plays but lack of pass rush had definitely affected them. They can add some depth but DE, DT, LB are priorities IMO.

Defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa has been an excellent player for the price of a third-round pick, but in a weak defensive tackle market, his price could skyrocket. Odighizuwa is slightly less productive than Nnamdi Madubuike of the Baltimore Ravens, but his projected market is in that same range. At $20 to $25 million, Odighizuwa won’t be worth the cost for Dallas, and the team will need to use an early draft selection for his replacement.

Cornerback Jourdan Lewis might have priced himself out of Dallas with his play in 2024, but the injury to Treven Diggs might be enough to force the Cowboys’ hand. A multiyear contract will be necessary, and a cap hit of under three million isn’t enough this time. Lewis has shown an ability to perform in multiple defensive schemes, and Jerry Jones will find a way to keep him on the roster, if necessary, as Diggs insurance.

Chauncey Golston has had a breakout season, and while he doesn’t have the gaudy statistics, his play was invaluable for the injury-riddled Cowboys. His ability to stop the run as an edge defender helped the team improve defensively as the season progressed.

Golston is in the top 12 among defensive ends in run defense snaps, solo tackles, assisted tackles, and batted passes. He is in the top 20 in total snaps and run stops. His lack of pass rush will keep him from a huge payday, so if the defensive end market is down some, then it is possible the Cowboys can get him to return. A trade-off of losing Odighizuwa but keeping Lewis and Golston could be the plan for this front office.
