Parcells drafting the players we want is the compensation.
Well, with them drafting near the beginning of each round and us drafting near the end, that probably means either,
a) we'll be taking players they're targeting with their picks, or
b) they'll be reaching.

You'd think we could have turned this into a package deal.

Say LB Carpenter, TE Fasano and Ireland for their #1. :laugh2:

If there is compensation it will come in the form of a discounted price to move into the #1 pick.

So now, instead of three 1st round picks and Bobby Carpenter, Dallas just have to give the three 1st round picks.

I know, I know. Not much of a discount. But its a start.

All this talk about compensation is meaningless chatter. The NFL did away with such arrangements a few years ago.

NFL nixes draft picks for coaches/front office personnel

The league's new policy is not restricted to head coaches. It prevents draft picks from being used to sign anyone under contract with another team, including assistants, front-office personnel or scouts.

Sorry, but any talks about compensation appear to be wishful/hopeful thinking.

If we are picking at 31 :) , since the Pats don't have a pick, the Phins would pick at 32 in the 2nd round, 1 spot behind us, probably wouldn't take a lot to move up to 30 if they want someone they KNOW we are targeting.

If that's been the case since 2003, then why did the Chiefs have to give up a 4th Rounder for Herm Edwards??

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/chiefs/2006-01-09-edwards_x.htm

Maybe because of this ...

The league's owners can decide whether to restore the right to trade draft picks for coaches at their annual meeting March 22-26 in Phoenix.

I don't know if the leage restored that right or not. Maybe the Herm Edwards' situation indicates that it did.

Good find. :)

That's true, but it will take some a proactive effort on their part to get that done. Unlikely that they'll do that more than once, if at all.

They could also trade down in the first and have some picks that are a little closer to us. But we don't have any control over that stuff. As it is right now, they're either going to be reaching, trading (hence losing other things), or we'll be in position to target their guys. It works both ways.
