i don't know about the bashing....

however, this was not a sterling performance by our defense. there are areas that definitely need improvement.

Our defense needs time to gel and get used to the 3-4, but we just got the hardest of our 1st three games out of the way, so that is a good thing.

Our defense should be much better in about a month.

We're playing a lot of young guys, and on top of that, a new defensive scheme.

Hopefully in the next few weeks, Fergy and Spears will be in even better football shape (as they missed nearly all of pre-season), Ware will be much more comfortable, Burnett will be back and should be settling down as well, and K Davis should make more improvement. I think he had a few lapses versus SD.

And don't forget that we'll be integrating Fujita (sp?) at LB too.

I agree Mr Woods.....it will take a few games under their belts before they start gelling. When they do........look out.

That's what I'm talking about. Like Emmitt said, come the last half of the season, we are a team you DON'T want to be playing.

I'm not in the mood to bash anyone this morning, but let's remember, our defense gave up 24 points.

And I forgot to mention the maturing of Canty!

We have a tremendous amount of talent in the front 7. We just need some game experience.

Gotta say fellas, this is the first time in a long time that I've watched a Cowboys team that I'm almost certain is going to get much better by the end of the year. Exciting times in Big D!

Well...my point Zimmer, didn't have the players (last year) he, has this year. So yes, when they do 'gell' they, will be a sight to behold.

My beef with Zimmy is that when the defense was playing aggresive and blitzing, they practically stopped San Diego cold, allowing us to catch up to them. Then at the beggining of the second half he went to his usual wussy style and played the CB's 20 yards off the receivers and the Chargers marched it down our throats. Luckily he went aggresive again and stopped them at the end of the game.

I'll usually defend Zimmer, but his "aggressive" call to send BOTH safeties on third and long on the last drive of the game was a terrible call.

Good post Woods & others...

Someone mentioned yesterday that its Parcells D now and thats why he gave up calling the plays on offense.

Can anyone confirm that?

Whoever it was, it was still a bad call sending both safeties.

Absolutely!!

We were aggressive and made some good plays but we blitzed Keith Davis on that 4th and 14 then allowed a 32 yard completion to right where a non-bltzing davis would have been standing.

Davis was very mediocre but he also showed with that hit on McCardell in the end zone what he can bring to the table if allowed to get some playing time under his belt.

With our young guys it may be easier to just blitz then insteadof asking them to cover someone ro read a play, lol.

ok we won the game so I am happy, and Glenn made an awesome play to win the game but come on...

we hardly touched Brees all day, and it wasnt like every play was a 3 step drop and throw...alot of times he stood there like a statue...while the total yards allowed werent bad, you have to remember the Chargers started alot of drives at or around mid field...they scored on 3 straight drives at one point...Bledsoe was knocked down ALOT more than Brees was, and the Chargers had one of the worst pass rushing teams in football last yr...

nothings changed with me in regards to Zimmer, I think he's a liability...just like Bruce DeHaven

I agree JT & Junk...
I have never been one to want full out blitzes bring everyone...

I just hope we tweak who blitzes...
Dat & Shanle aren't fast or strong enough to do that...I would rather do more stunts so that Ware isn't just coming off the edge...

Brees just does not get sacked that often, last season he was sacked 18 time and given the fact LT was getting some runs on us to move the chains I think that caused Ware and the rest of the Cowboys to be a bit more careful about just taking off after Brees. No doubt Defense has some work to do but I think most people understood that with as many new faces and new defense that we would make mistakes
