cause this sure ain't the season i was sold coming into things.
the off-season itself held it's own typical drama as everyone huddled around wondering what we would ever do without murray and would the dez deal EVER get signed? looking back, who knew the freight train of sadness we would soon witness as we went from one of the most promising starts in a decade to this.
i would try to define "this" but how can you? we've reached beyond words and emotions as we struggle to establish a single game in the 1st 4 we can feel good about. game 1, bye dez. game 2, bye romo. game 3 and 4, goodbye respect, hello weeden.
weeden will be the whipping boy whether or not it's fair. yes the D has been horrible on it's best plays and not even that when we lose lee. again. and again. and again.
the only thing good about all this so far is we have an early start to the next "walking dead" season. off the top of my head injuries include:
dez
romo
lee (week to week now at this point)
scandrick
dunbar - just damn. i didn't care for him coming into the season and he turned around and was one of the few we could depend on. just damn.
brice butler. HOLY HELL DID YOU SEE THAT??? no, not the catch. the eventual "holy ****, again" pull up he did and reached for his hammy. so even our replacement is now injured and who knows how long out.
there will be more, to be sure. you just don't get this banged up and call it a day by week 4. i know in the past we've suffered through "oh my god can you believe it" injuries and we're off to top even that year we all worked so hard to forget. you see, i can't even tell you which year it was cause this one just beats 'em all to hell and back.
it honestly seems like we're watching a bunch of understudies who got caught playing around never thinking the bus that hauled in all the "stars" would break down and take them all into a void of despair where not only are they hurt physically but mentally they must watch this disaster unfold. oh the horror.
now for some specifics on performance at the end of our first quarter. just like i got back in high school.
randle. i wanted to like him. i did. but his obsession with stupidity coupled with already suspect intelligence at a base level made liking him a very difficult thing indeed. toss in his unyeilding desire to say something and show that he has yet to hit the true extremes of his lack of intelligence and he's just begging to be made an example of.
however. that brings me to dunbar. coming into this season i felt him a waste of space cruising by in 3rd place happy and content to be there making money, fending off those not quite up to 3rd place status and hanging onto an NFL career as long as he could. now the loss of dunbar has (2) nasty side effects. we've lost his production in a season when he was one of the few producing and even worse, his loss makes it impossible to just toss randle down the toilet, ensuring to jimmy the handle to ensure it all flushes.
christine. well that was a very strange time to bring in the new guy.
mcfadden. he is what we thought he would be so far. nothing special and a camp body.
murray. of course we can't talk about our RB issue w/o mentioning murray. even if he were here i just don't see him making a difference. at 25% through the year i have more yards going back and forth to the toilet than he does on the field so i'll just leave it at that.
street. unless his first name is changed to HIT THE i have no use for this kid any longer. he's managed to by invisible in a void and while talented, not quite what we need. i realize we can't just bring in someone who'll know the system by next week but we can certainly let another name run around out there and not feel the loss of street and give the lost young pup time to see what he can do. street is done and going the way of the historical "stanback".
weeden. weeden weeden weeden. no i can't place the loss on him. not all of it. our defense seems to step aside just in time to wave at the other guys and then follow them into the endzone like a puppy dog lapping up their masters footsteps. HEY YOU DROPPED YOUR PINK TOWEL they seem to say as they finally get to the endzone doing anything BUT their impersonation of a defense these days.
but weeden weeden weeden. you know those roach motels you just set out and the roaches trap themselves by getting curious and going in? i used to be "thrifty" and turn them upside down when the floor was full so i could use the other side. however, that did leave the roach now hanging upside down in a small box. the only thing worse for the roach is when the glue wears off and they fall back down, only now stuck on their back looking up at where they used to be.
that's kinda how i view weeden after he chooses to fall down at the mere site of an opposing defensive lineman. he just falls over stuck, looking up at where he used to be. sadly enough, the roach falling has shown more escapability than weeden.
so if our choices are to continue with weeden and prove cleveland right all along or realize cleveland was right and put him back to 4th string and lets see what the others can do. can't be much worse than a 5 legged roach stuck on his back in a box he never knew how he got into.
as for the defense, we knew it was a tough haul coming in. our "best" have been MIA and our saving grace at this point is we get some intensity back on the DL with hardy and mcclain back at LB. we can only hope dropping (2) sure fire interceptions was the worst of yesterday and we have better times ahead but regardless of what happens from here on out, this sure didn't start off like anything we thought it would.
even given the injuries and growing MASH list.
put me down as someone who bought into the hype of how great this year would be but even before dez got hurt and then romo had to follow, we've simply not put together 2 quarters of good football, much less a game. the fact we're 2-2 and tied for first is pretty remarkable but there certainly isn't much to feel good about with this team these days.
will be interesting to see what the coaches and jones does this week to regroup.
