Okay, let's look at the roster from not so much a fan view but from a McCarty/Jones view. Rarely we fans get it right. As to free agency, the rumors are we will do more than previous years, but seeing is believing.

QB - Dak, no one else qualified on the roster. Solution - probably resign Cooper Rush to a 2 yr deal unless some team overpays him, draft a guy on 3rd day of draft

RB - Zeke, Davis Solution - most think we franchise Pollard although I think Jones will try to sign him to a 5yr deal for around $47 million in which the last 2 year are voidable so contract would be rough like a 3 yr deal for say $28 million of which $15 million is bonus spread over 5 yr, cap would be probably $4 million in 2023. Now Zeke will be offered a pay cut since his number is so high salary wise and they probably want his cap number down in the $9 million range for 2023 and 2024, still high but most of that is prorated bonus money, if Zeke doesn't take the cut then he's a June 1st cut. Pollard might not be ready until October so it is risky. Dallas will draft a RB but betting it is a 3rd day guy, not going to see one early even if Robinson falls to 26 Dallas will get a late 1st and a 2nd for him, say NO 30th and 41st for Robinson at 26 if he fell. Probably sign a FA like Rashard Penny or Ronald Jones so see if they can recover their careers.

WR - Lamb, Gallup, Turpin, Tolbert Solution - they could resign Noah Brown back but think the cost will be to high, they expect Tolbert to be greatly improved and he will need to be to be on the roster, we probably draft one but don't expect one unless one of the top 4 guys falls to us, WR good not great in this draft. On the FA front we still have a fascination with OBJ but I don't, Parris Campbell could be a target, just don't see us paying big money for one unless it is in a trade for one. Hard call but we need some help here that is at least good enough to take some pressure off Lamb.

TE - Ferguson, Hendershot, McKeon Solution - just don't see us resigning Schultz unless it is a great deal for Dallas and don't see us signing a FA or drafting one but probably sign at least 2 guys as UDFA guys.

OL - Tyron Smith, Tyler Smith, Martin, Biadasz, Ball, Waletzko, Farniok, Alarcon Solution - Steele will either be signed to a 3 or 5 year deal or tendered as a 1st round guy, Peters could be resigned but he won't sign until late training camp, Could see a FA like Will Hernandez to cover until the draft but really believe we draft a guy that can play either OT/OG or OG/OC in either 1st or 2nd. Coaches seem to be very high on Alarcon and if he is going to be a player it will need to be now and at LG. Waletzko is ultimately going to be either the backup RT or the swing OT or take Steele's spot as he has that talent. Tyron is going to be the swing OT this year especially if we draft an OG early. OL is critical for McCarthy success this year. Probably draft an OT late draft.

DL - Lawrence, Armstrong, WIlliams, Bohanna, Gallimore, Odighizuwa, Golston Solution - probably see Hankins resigned for a short contract, maybe same for Barr if minimum, maybe sign a couple of cheap FAs or one trying to remake career like Lawson or Zach Allen but big signing may come here with Da'Ron Payne if Washington doesn't resign him. Getting Payne would make the DL so much better quickly. Bryan, Gaines, and Tomilson are 3 others that we might be interested in signing. Will draft another DE maybe 3rd round or later.

LB - Parsons, Clark, Cox Solution - expect LVE to be resigned unless they can get Deion Jones if Cleveland doesn't resign him. He knows Quinn well. Quite a few good backup guys as FAs so probably 1 or 2 signed in 3rd/4th week of FA. Could see one in the 1st 3 rounds of the draft if the right guy is there.

CB/S - Diggs, Bland, Joseph, Wright, Lewis, Bell, Kearse, Hooker, Mukuamu Solution - Brown could come back on a 1 year deal due to his injury, Lewis likely cut, could see CB being a first round pick for us, safety position looks solid and even losing Wilson won't change much. Probably draft a S late day three or UDFA but expect Bell to be a better version of Wilson.

ST - Anger Solution - there will be a new K in Dallas and don't be surprised to see 3 or 4 in TC, McQuaid will be resigned to 1 or 2 year deal

So if I was the GM, would sign Payne DT and Deion Jones ILB 1st in FA, then Parris Campbell, then Will Hernandez ( or someone capable of starting decently at LG), then fill out the rest. As to money, cuts, restructures and extensions are going to happen like it or not so I suspect we will be some $45 million under the cap by first of March.

As to draft: and as always should see 3 to 5 QBs in the 1st 10 picks so could see Porter CB and Gonzales CB in late teens and I would move up for either of them with a 3rd in 2024, and 4th and 5th this year.
For me:
1. Joey Porter CB PSU
2. Steve Avila OG/OC TCU
3. Demarion Overshown LB Texas
4. Michael Wilson WR Stanford if no trade for Porter
5. Ryan Hayes OT Michigan if no trade for Porter
5. Tanner McKee QB Stanford
6. Isiah Land EDGE Florida A&M
7. Zach Kuntz TE ODU
7. Tavion Thomas RB Utah

Simplified version.

Franchise Pollard and draft a RB to take over in 2024.

Need: DT, CB and WR.

WR:
- They really need a significant veteran WR. They didn't have enough experience at WR in 2022. Lamb was still developing.
- Even with a free agent WR added, they need to draft another one.

DT:
They have to get a legit DT. Daron Payne is a 10 and Gallimore is a 1. They need something at least greater than 5.
Several mid-tier free agents are available (A'Shawn Robinson, etc.).
If no significant free agent, then must have DT in the top 2 rounds.

They can manage everywhere else assuming they re-sign most of their own free agents.
- They'll manage at OG regardless (without McGovern).
- They have to have a RT for game 1 and can't count on Steele being ready.
- Either keep Tyron or they'll have to sign a reasonable free agent OT.
- Re-sign LVE.
- They can manage at Safety without Wilson if the price is to high.
- Mukuamu and Bell are options. Maybe move Jabril Cox to SS.
- The 3 young TEs are good enough without Schultz. Ferguson likely better than Schultz by the end of 2023.
