It's countdown time for the draft, and so it's about time people start mailing in their likely choices for the Cowboys 1st overall selection, 27th overall.

Let's get it on record. I'm going with Maurkice Pouncey, C from Florida.

I think Im w/ you on that.

My predictions

1. Pouncey
2. Chris Cook
3. Carlton Mitchell
4. Arthur Jones

I've been on the Pouncey Bandwagon for weeks now and see no reason to change. If he's not there then McCourty makes a lot of sense.

Pouncey will be pounced on by the Steelers

what will happen is a trade with the Benals or NE - give them Bennett
and our 27 pick

and we pick up Iupati

Iupati IMO has been the target all of the off season

I just have a hard time believing that in a crucial off-season where we are so close to being a Superbowl team, that our first addition, our first "improvement", would be a back-up center.

I get that Pouncey is going to be a very good player down the road. I just don't think he does anything to make our 2010 team better besides improving depth. For those of you that say Pouncey can beat out Left Guard Kyle Kosier, I don't see the team putting a rookie next to first-year starter Doug Free.

I could see Pouncey or Iupati, who seems tailor-made for Dallas, being the pick but I just worry that we aren't going to be a better team now when we are so close.

With apologies to Alan Ball, we have a glaring need at safety. Even drafting a WR like Dez Bryant, makes us better now.

Last, with this inactive off-season where we are not getting any long-term deals squared away, we are setting ourselves up for a difficult off-season next year. All of these RFA's that are signing tenders will need to be signed next year and along with Kyle Kosier, will most likely be unrestricted free agents.

We're not trading Bennett to move up 6 spots in the draft without getting something else back. Thats an incredibly stupid trade for us.

Nor do I think we'll move up for an interior OL.

There's your prediction of what they won't do, where's the prediction of what they will?

I think they trade down and end up taking Ducasse.

No clue. Hopefully they go for best player on the board outside of QB, RB and OLB. If they stay put, I would imagine that McCourty will probably be the best available (I really don't see Dez, Thomas, Iupati or Pouncey dropping to us at this stage).

I could see them maybe trading down. I also could see why they'd like Ducasse, who could potentially play 4 OL positions and gives them alot of flexibility. I had never seen him until the Senior Bol game, but he impressed me.

I'm hoping for Earl Thomas, but know thats very unlikely. I could see a scenario where they end up with one of the safeties they like (Allen, Burnett) and an OL like Ducasse, and I think that'd be a productive first couple of picks.

When Pouncey, Iupati, ET, etc, etc are all gone I say we trade down.

Maybe with a team that is desperate to move up to get McCoy.

Offense needs juice and backup OL who can be groomed to be starters.

If it's my team I'm turning over the whole OL within 3 years.

For juice I'm drafting WR Dexter McCluster.

Our O got a ton of yards but left a lot of points on the field.

After Dex I target, Jerry, Fox and Newhouse as OL.

AOA as FS/CB.

Don't forget Sean Lee and Terminator.

I can certainly agree with that.

That's be a nice first two picks for me too.

I like Thomas too, but if you told me we'd walk away with Allen and Ducasse after the first two rounds I'd be thrilled.

1st round trade down til early 2nd and add a early 3rd, with early 2nd get Nate Allen, with our 2nd get Vladimir Ducasse, with early 3rd grab Javier Arenas, our 3rd get Donald Butler, Our 4th get Jason Fox.

Then we got 2 more picks for luxery since all needs are filled.

While true, Goose is hearing that the best value for safety is in the 2nd and 3rd round area. So we could get a guy like Morgan Burnett in the 2nd.

I think Jerry gets cute again, and trades down into the early 2nd round. Then we'll take Charles Brown. Hopefully, Linus will be there for us in the 3rd.
