So why do we still struggle with 3rd & 10+? *MERGE*

Please, mods... understand that this is not a post game thread. The team has struggled way beyond reasonable expectations on 3rd & 10+ for a season and a half now. It went on all last season, and it has happened far too often this season.

Why can't the coaching staff see the pattern and ADJUST? How long do we have to keep failing on these gimme downs and distances before we change what we do, and how we approach this situation? It boggles my mind that this could be such a chronic problem with this team.

I want answers. I want the media to hammer Wade about this inexcusable problem. I want it to stop.

In the last three years Dallas seems to get to third and long quite a bit. Then a miraculous play and we reset the downs.

But being the second most penalized team in football causes that to be a dangerous proposition.

Perhaps the real question is why do we do so poorly on first and second downs?

How about avoiding 3rd and 10+ altogether?

Our offensive coordinator is completely inept. It's all he can do to convert 3rd and 1 at times. He can't be expected to ever draw up successful 3rd and 10+ plays.

You do understand he's probably talking about the fact that the DEFENSE gives up a lot of 3rd and over 10 plays.

I'm talking about the DEFENSE giving up far too many 3rd & 10 plus for back breaking first downs. Sorry, I guess I should have explained it better, but I though it was obvious.

It is my opinion that on 3rd and longer than 6 we should switch to either a Tampa 2 or a 3 deep safety package. The QB's always seem to find the hole in the deep middle of our d, just put an athletic DB in that hole.

My bad, I thought this was an offensive thread.

I blame this part on Jason Garrett. Screen pass on 3rd and 23? No thanks.

You live by the blitz you die by the blitz.

It's the price we pay for being so aggressive on 3rd and long

Well, then correct it. Right now 3rd and long is the worst down for our defense. We seem to hold them on 1st and 2nd and then they convert 3rd and long consistently. Its a damn right abomination.

Anybody know where the defense stood on opponents converting 3rd downs prior to today? GB was 7-15 today which is high, while Dallas was 3-12. Part of the reason is the defense being on the field too long, GB had the ball 35 minutes. I certainly hope this does not become a trend.

regardless of O or D, we are pretty bad on 3rd and long. I can't see why we keep dumping short passes, maybe to the LOS on 3rd and long, and on D, definitely not sure there either....

Hell, 3rd and 10 isn't the horror flick is used to be when you have DBs giving you 12-15 yards of free running room.

GB converted a 3rd and 2 on a short pass to the left early in the game and guess how much cushion there was on 3rd and 2. Almost 10 ****ing yards.

The D battled their ***** off today but these cushions have got to go. You cannot give up pass after pass after pass uncontested like that. Quick passes did damage today.

We were fifth in third-down defense before today.

as far as the O goes it's a simple problem to point out they keep putting them selves in 3rd and long i don't know how anyone can expect to constantly move the chains when that happenes (unless you're playing against Dallas :banghead:) we've actually been really good at converting them and that hides some of the flaws with our offense and playcalling. When we run into good defenses like we usually do in December and the playoffs we pay dearly for this

Our defense does seem to have a problem getting off the field on 3rd and long. GB converted a 3rd and 12 as well as a 3rd and 14 on one drive alone today. Oy!

The 3rd and long on offense vs the 3rd and long is two big differences.

3rd and long on defense is a down you should get off the field on a high % of the snaps. We don't seem to be doing that very often. That is a major problem.

The problem on offense is getting into 3rd and long. You end up putting up a lot of turn overs trying to continually converting 3rd and long on offense. So I'd classify the 3rd and long problem a problem with getting there, not what play your running when you get there.
