So why do we still struggle with 3rd & 10+? *MERGE*

1st down-incomplete or sack

2nd down shotgun draw for 3 yards or incomplete

3rd and long means blitz romo while he waits for his wrs to get open.

I hate that "panic draw", we usually auidble to it with like 2 sec left on the playclock and have to hurry the get the snap off in time and the RB is usually met in the backfield by half the defense that could just jump the playclock instead of worrying about the snap count :banghead:

On the other hand its also one of our more successful running plays also. I'm thinking one of our problems right now is that neither Barber or Jones is fully healthy right now.

Because that really mattered today.

The Packers sure seemed impressed.

We were fifth in third-down defense before today.

I don't think it matters how healthy you are when you get hit 3 yards in the backfield by an unblocked defender.

BUT THIS THREAD IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT THE DEFENSE, PEOPLE!

Why limit it to 3rd and ten? They converted all kinds of third downs today. It's hard to bag on the defense considering they singlehandedly kept us in the game. but they just could not get off the field at critical times.

Giving up critical 3rd and longs has been a problem for this team for years. It really came out in all its ugliness today.

I was just answering the question.

I don't know how this was missed by so many. My thread is about the defense folding and choking consistently on 3rd and 10 plus situations. I don't give a damn right now about the offense. It doesn't have the same consistent el foldo on 3rd and long as the defense.

I would like one of the stats geeks to research how many times the Dallas defense has allowed a first down in 3rd & 10+ situations starting from week 1 last year through to this game today. I bet the numbers would be shockingly appaling. It has to be league worst, and maybe even NFL history worst as I can't remember any Dallas team, even the really bad ones, giving up so many 3rd and 10 plus plays for first downs.

Because paradoxically the team seems able to stop third and mid to short far more often than 3rd & 10 plus. It doesn't make sense that the problem would persist so long. My theory is that Wade just can't help but play soft thinking that bend but don't break prevent is the way to handle third and long rather than playing hard nosed. It has failed, but Wade just hasn't seen the pattern, or is too set in his ways to change how he approaches the situation.
