Ran across this the other day..

Back in the late 60s..

this story produced enormous fan interest for Cowboy fans.

You do not need to view the entire video..

the Cowboy part starts about 11:45 into it.

I never knew the entire story on this till now.

Lance Rentzel was a fine WR for us.

He caught the famous halfback pass TD thrown from Dan Reeves in the Ice Bowl for us.

This is the first really negative issue for our team I can remember up to then and the team went from being contenders to being pretenders overnight in a blink of an eye

FYI

The media didn't report all of the sordid details of players and celebrities like they do now.

That famous guy in the early sixties that hooked up with Marilyn Monroe did way way more "stuff" than the guy with the same job that hooked up with Monica L. in the nineties, but the "stuff" in the sixties was not reported at the time.

There were a lot of player antics that never got reported. Obviously the Lance Rentzel arrest had to be reported because it went beyond the sports media.

The media did report this extensively. I remember it well because bunch of Commander fans reminded me of it often. The difference nowadays is social media and how it gives a voice to fans who actually think they know more than coaches, players and FO football people.

Yes, on the Rentzel issue they reported extensively; although, not the 1st time that he had been in trouble for a similar incident.

My point is that many players did things that were never reported despite it being common knowledge to reporters around the team(s).

You’re right. Can you imagine a journalist doing that in this day and age?

The Rentzel “exposure” arrest was national news at the time but, unlike it would today, it had a fairly short lifespan.

Redball are you a Photographer, just noticing your avatar, or is it a hobby?

Clint Murchison wasn't exactly squeaky clean.
Oh stop it.

I posted this becuz newer fans do not know how we got so famous.

I liked Rentzel as I said..

but he was a killer to our rep and Joey was a mystery.

So I thought what the heck..it's off season with lots of time to kill.

Hey .

I just like Joey Heatherton.

Would like to have seen her in a DCC outfit.

We as fans saw little of her.

Such a shame what Lance did to both their careers.

It was a big story back then but without Social Media and 24-7 news service it didn’t have the legs it would in today’s era.

Landry immediately released Rentzel who was one of our star players. And that was in an era when the league didn’t dictate personal conduct punishment.

The “No pants” Lance story was huge in 1970. If it had happened today, OMG.

Lance Rentzell had been a real star for the Cowboys from 67-70. He caught the only offensive TD in the famous Ice Bowl game in 67 and was a legit star for about three years. Until his infamous crime in 1970.

Rentzell’s romance with Joey Heatherton was a big story in those days but his indecent exposure crime caused his world to come crashing down. Rentzell wrote a book called “When all the laughter died in sorrow” in the mid 70s and it was a very interesting read about Rentzell’s deep fall from grace. Sad but fascinating story.
