Some fans biggest mistake regarding O line

one of the reasons our tackles were blamed for a lot of sacks was that Tony had no pocket to step up into

The way it is SUPPOSED to be is that when there is heat coming from the outside the QB steps up into the pocket allowing the rushers to go behind him pushed by the tackles to keep the rusher from being able to change directions and get the QB

With pressure up the middle that ability disapears and the ones getting blamed are the tackles when it is really the interior of the line that is at fault

Great point, burm.

Again I say....and for the LAST time....I am VERY high on Tyron Smith. Always have been for that matter. Just saying these things take time is all. If this mindset is WRONG......then I dont know what to say anymore.

Because about 6 paragraphs were you dumping on him followed by some fine print where you said you think he has what it takes, but still had conditions attached.

I wasnt " dumping " on him at all. If listing a players current stats and following it up with saying I believe the player has major up side in the near future is DUMPING,....than I dont know what to think. Me......I just call it being honest.

In his last 7/8 games last year he gave up 2 sacks

He finished super strong

Oh, I'm part of the choir here. But it is worth noting, as to not be surprised, that more than just Ware are successful against him in camp. That is all. It's not an inditement against him developing to his full potential. And the upground is Hall of Fame material. ;)

Dude you made a stupid thread. Just admit it. It happens trust me I've been there before. Nothing wrong with it.

Keep on running that string line, man...:)

And thus ends the great experiment! Thanks for playing. :p:

Now I KNOW for sure our fans still seem to have that sense of entitlement thing going on. That whole WERE BETTER THAN YOU thing when in truth we havent proven it on the field in forever. This whole deal of anointing players or the team in general as THE GREATEST before they even as much as win a damn thing.

I can only hope that the staff has rooted out this type of thinking as much as humanly possible as it is a TEAM KILLER , a debilitating,... TEAM KILLER!

My bet is they have . Least lets hope so.

Here is what is a little unsettling to me.......At left tackle we roll out Smith, a still Raw Smith who hasnt played left tackle in ages as he was a right tackle in college.

Our guards look to be Livings and Bernadeau....WHO? Although I have a good feeling that Livings will perform fairly decent. At Center......Costa. OH OH.

And at right tackle......Doug Free. The guy who half the board thinks sucks!...LOL Even though in his games started at right tackle he performed at a much higher level than Smith did.

In all actuality Doug Free, Playing as a RIGHT tackle, is the most stable lineman in his position of the 5 starters. This is based upon FACT,...track record when the games count,...not just wishful thinking.

Think about that a minute...........

But to end on a positive,...once again as I posted earlier, I do believe Smith has the attributes needed to perform at a high level. I just believe he has to SHOW US on the field in games where it counts before we go crowning him a perennial pro bowler is all.

I totally agree. We all love Smith, but he is far from a finished product and has proven nothing at LT at this point. I'm far from a negative poster when it comes to this team and have been considered a "homer" at times, but I have very little optimism when it comes to this OL. I really wanted them to sign Waters last year and questioned whether throwing Costa in as a starter was wise. People mocked those "Chicken Little worries", but the concerns were obviously justified. This season I am praying that they sign Holland sooner than later. Youth is nice and we'd all love to have the '92 Cowboys with an abundance of young talent, but do not sacrifice legitimate ability for potential - especially when the potential is really questionable with guys like Costa, Arkin, Nagy, etc.
I still stay sign Holland ASAP. A line with Smith, Livings, Bernadeau (or Costa if Bernadeau sucks), Holland, and Free will be an upgrade over anything we can put out right now.

I love to bash this line as much as anybody. Even I can't get behind this thread. Tyron is the only quality lineman on the team.

You can be smart and make stupid comments/thread

I consider myself a very smart young fella, but I at times on this board have made stupid comments/threads, but that doesn't mean I'm stupid.

Tyron Smith is a GREAT, OUTSTANDING, UNBELIEVABLE , left tackle. In fact........the very best in the entire NFL. Bar none.

Ummmm.....he has yet to play a single down there yet,....but IT IS......because I said so! LMAO

Nawwwwww....no unrealistic entitlement thinking here at all.

Well you compared the performance of a 20 year old rookie to a 25 year old veteran. As if that meant anything.

Um no dude it's called realizing that we have a great young stud. There's no sense of entitlement here. Many people realize here we have alot of talent on our football team, but many people also realize that means nothing in the NFL if you don't win a Super Bowl.

Tyron Smith is a great, young player and he proved that last season.

No...Im NOT. I dont care about AGE. Nobody should. I am merely comparing one tackle to another because in the end thats what will be on the field. Age doesnt even come into play. DOESNT MATTER. Justin Tuck isnt going to I.D Smith on the way to Romo and take it easy on him because he is young.

No one said he would.

I kind of agree. He has so far PROVEN that he is a VERY GOOD young player with the obvious potential to become GREAT very soon.

Right. You didn't compare them, while comparing them in your original post.

This thread is so bad I can actually smell it. The one quality player we have on that OL and this is what you come up with.
