I would have loved for Dallas to win this game, but, I think we may look back on this game as groundwork for this team taking a big step forward.

Reason #1 - This game will put a chip on their shoulders. I have had a sense for the last few weeks that some members of the team have started buying the hype a little too much. The Buffalo game is a good example. I guarantee you that Dallas will remember this loss any time the media starts pumping them up again. Any time they hear the hype, remembering this game will remind them that they have to still climb up to reach the pedastool.

Reason #2 - The Patriots showed the Cowboys today what a championship caliber team looks and acts like. Before, during and after the game, they were all business. The Pats stayed focused even when momentum swung towards Dallas and kept doing what they always do. This team should take note.

Also, it's a game against the AFC, so it doesn't mean much when it comes to tiebreakers for the playoffs. The Green Bay, Carolina, Detroit and Washington games will be much more important, as those are the teams that Dallas will possibly be up against for seeding purposes. Those wins will determine home field.

If they meet again and Dallas is healthy and the refs butt out, Dallas puts Folk in last minute range and poetic Super bowl justice is achieved, this game will vanish from all memory.

Good post. I absolutely agree. The Cowboys are by far the biggest team in Dallas, and it's easy for them to get a little too much adulation when they're winning. This game should do wonders for the Marcus Spearses of the team who might think they were already a great player. That game should show them just how hard they'll have to work if they want to beat these guys in the future.

Bump! This thread deserves more comment. Good post Joe Rod.

This game will definitely be a reminder for the Cowboys. And the Cowboys will learn a ton from this game.

We will improve as the year goes on. Cue the Rocky Balboa music!!!

totally disagree on #1. you seem to think we're a dynasty-in-the-making that is underachieving & buying it's hype. passing out the anointing oils.

#3 is silly because if you need to be crushed at home like that to be "shown what a championship team is" then write off this season. we got flat out beat and outcoached yesterday. we were all business, it's just that we made dumb penalties and had dumb coaching calls.

i don't mind losing a game but that was as anti-competitive a final 20+ minutes of a game as i've ever seen from a 5-0 team.

the last 20+ was simply anti-competitive.

brady was slinging it around like Troy times 10. our coaches were waffling in a way to make herm edwards and ritchie kotie be proud. our offense putrid and romo throws another "dumber than farve" INT. waiting for the clock to reach 0:00

pathetic finish sorry.

They were on the field for way too long and got worn out during late second half. Not making any excuses for them, just stating my observation.

You know what, i am happy we lost. Get the undefeated crap out of the way and now we can focus on the NFC. Had we won we would be crowned the Champs at the 6th week mark. It’s too early and now the team knows it has to get better and can use it as motivation. I don’t get all the negative articles being written. We are in the drivers seat in the NFC.

not that the game was winnable (thanks to wade's boneheaded 3rd & 4th/goal plays) but what excuse do you give Tony for that STUPID int?

our coaching staff since jimmah left has shown a complete inability to reel in players, prevent penalties and actually gameday COACH the team up to win a game vs a good team it otherwise had no business beating.

we can't play the rams & BUF every week 'ya know (and most years since we'd have split those two).

Clarification: I don't think that the Cowboys are a dynasty in the making. I don't know how you interpreted my comments as such, but I posted so you are entitled to add you two cents. They have the potential to be a very good team this year, but they must be a focused team to achieve that. They certainly must be at the top of their game to compete with what the Patriots have to offer.

I assume that #3 above ties to my #2. They didn't need to get "crushed at home", but they were crushed at home nonetheless. Since it did actually happen, there are lessons to be learned when they review the tape. The Patriots play with a chip on their shoulders. They don't get 100 yards in penalties. They didn't need to get up for this game because they are up for every game. They are intense from beginning to end. The beginning is the key term, because Romo and Co did the Defense no favors by going three and out the first three possessions. That is not attributable to the Patriots only. It has happened every game. Time to scold the offense for not being in sync from the first whistle. Seven to ten points would have meant Dallas is playing for a victory in the fourth quarter instead of licking their wounds. Those slow starts will not work come playoff time.

If the Dallas offense ever decides to play the first quarter like they play the other four, this team can compete with the Patriots and all others. Can they win? I'm not sure. But, I suspect it would be a be a closer game than what was seen yesterday.

I don't know about putting a chip on their shoulders, but it should definitely define a goal. First of all, the cowboys have a pretty solid football team, regardless of some poster's thoughts. Are they an elite team? No, and I don't think they thought of themselves as an elite team.

I think the loss will serve to get the players even closer, to unite them further in the common quest for the championship run.

I think people should also remember that there is a brand new offensive scheme in place as is there a new scheme on the defensive side of the ball. The players will execute better as the season progress. The coaches will coach better as players get more familiar.
