*Have no clue why Wade Phillips didn’t try the field goal before the half for David Buehler. Isn’t this training camp about evaluating your players?

The biggest question mark left in this camp is if David Buehler is going to be the starting placekicker in 2010, period. Buehler should have had that opportunity to kick a 30-yard field goal. I understand, it’s only 30 yards and Buehler has been money from every where on the field except from 49 yards against Cincinnati. Which leads me to this question, are you really evaluating your kicker or is your mind already made up that it is his job?

If you are still evaluating Buehler, let him kick. If not, announce him as the starter and move forward, but not giving him the opportunity to gain confidence of himself and his teammates was puzzling.

*Marc Colombo is never pretty in the way he plays as an offensive tackle but in 2008, he was the most consistent linemen on the squad.

Colombo’s 2009 was cut short by injury, but he managed to work his way back into the lineup for the last game of the season and then the two playoff games. Against Minnesota, Colombo had the worst game of his Cowboys’ career. Wade Phillips offered that he should not allowed Colombo to return to the lineup because he wasn’t completely healthy.

In studying Colombo, he did not appear to struggle in either of the Eagles games, so what happened to him in the Minnesota game was surprising. In the Raiders contest, Colombo once again struggled with the edge rusher.

The Raiders’ Lamarr Houston is a nice young player that shows some good quickness off the edge, but it’s something that Colombo hasn’t seen all camp. The interesting thing is that Colombo didn’t have those struggles against the Bengals.

In San Antonio, there were reps where Colombo just wasn’t quick enough getting out of his stance and allowing his corner or edge to be taken. Maybe it’s a technique flaw that he needs to work through these last three preseason games, but he needs to try and find that consistency he enjoyed in 2008.

*Was it too much to ask this football team to have to play two preseason games five days apart after two weeks of training camp? As banged up as this team is right now, I have to give them credit for fighting through and not suffering any further injuries.

This appeared to be a tired football team in the second half. The situation that you have to remember is that these second- and third-teamers played the majority of the Cincinnati game too. It showed with lack of execution on both sides of the ball. Breakdowns, mistakes were all part of the game.

There is a side of me that believes that the work that Wade Phillips and this squad will do will lead to a much better showing in San Diego. Players will have the opportunity to work in outstanding weather on a grass field and the coaches will be able to teach and correct mistakes through practice and not have to worry about the quick turnaround of another preseason game.

Look for this team to be sharper and better prepared against the Chargers.

Its clear that during this preseason some need to have some sort of offensive line issues. Now that Free has solidified the LT spot...I guess its onto Colombo and whats wrong with him  Colombo did get beat in Oakland game but it looked like Romo was holding hold ball longer than usually....this is huge for OT because they dont anticipate holding it down for that long. The real question is why receivers are having such hard time getting seperation which forces Romo to hold ball and OL giving up sacks. I am gonna chalk Okland game up to tired legs. San Diego will give us much better picture as team will be practicing on grass and have 8 days to get ready.

Does he mean the back-to-back games? Colombo didn't play in the regular season finale; Free did.

Ummm...he's the only kicker.Pretty much tells anyone with a brain they announced him as the starter.

Exactly. This guy didn't study anything. Also, people who know more than I do on this site said he did struggle during that playoff game. It just was disregarded because it was a thrashing.

I don't know about in camp, but in the Raiders game, there was only one time that Colombo allowed "his corner or edge to be taken," and Romo still had time to get off a pass when that happened, but no one was open. The other two times it happened, Colombo had the block, but Romo had to hold the ball, which allowed the pass rusher to work loose. And on one of those times, Romo stepped forward to allow the pass rusher to stop trying to go around the edge and come back to the quarterback.

I guess all sacks/pressure are the fault of the linemen, though ... so, whatever.

Do what? I was under the impression he as already the starter in regards to Buehler. What needs to be said? He's been the only one kicking. Either way he's here regardless.

don't assume WRs did not get seperation....he may have not gone through his progressions quick enough....he may have made a mistake reading the PRE-snap coverage...locked in on 1 or 2 guys too long and as a result, WRs that WERE open....were NO longer open by the time he read option 3 and 4. I know it does not equate, but I play a LOT of Madden football. Pre-snap reads is what QBing is all about...you screw that up and you are in scramble mode. All of his sacks he had PLENTY of time. Again, maybe WRs were not open, but we do not KNOW this for sure.

On one play, I think Romo said it was supposed to be a pass underneath to Felix Jones, but Jones didn't run exactly where he needed to in order to get open. That set up the chain of events that led to the sack.

so what if Jones did run to the right route and STILL was not open? That's football...and improvising is what happens next. Hard to put that on the OL...think back to the Commander game in Dallas last year...or the Falcon game right before the end of the 1st half. Romo bought time and those plays turned into backyard football. Now on those plays the protection hung in there a lot longer, but my point is, not all coverage sacks are on the WRs.

3-4 seconds at most is all any QB is supposed to use to get through his progressions and throw; he is supposed to dump off or throw it away if by that time he has not got another option. So the question is how long did Romo take?

This dude is starting to get exposed, lol.

I mentioned Colombo practice struggles a couple of weeks ago. Talk about a day late and a dollar short.

No he didn't. The coaches had their finger on the panic button and decided to bench Free when it was clear Colombo wasn't ready to play. The way Free was playing, he should have started the Minnesota playoff game at ROT.

I guess Columbo found a comfortable place on the bench during the last regular season game versus the Eagles. No struggle at all ....

This makes me think Colombo is going to have a Pro Bowl year.

After hearing about the sacks without watching the game I was blaming the Oline - Goes to show you that sacks are not always the fault of the Oline. Two were easy throwaways by Romo - they were on him - I think that is juat a preseason thing with him trying to give guys more time to get open.

I was wrong about the Oline in this game - period.
