Britt Reid Faces Gun Charges; Could Andy Reid Resign?

Britt Reid, the 21-year-old son of Eagles coach Andy Reid, has been accused of pointing a gun at another driver and today was charged with drug and weapons offenses. Another of Reid's sons, 23-year-old Garrett, caused a car accident on the same day that his brother had his traffic incident, and Garrett admitted to using heroin that day.
We've addressed the charges against the Reid brothers already here at FanHouse, but to what extent should we blame Reid himself? Is he an absentee father who spends long hours at the office and neglects raising his sons? Is he a rich guy who gives his kids all the toys -- and none of the discipline -- they need?
With those questions unanswered and Reid saying nothing publicly, some fans and members of the Philadelphia media are speculating that Reid could resign from the Eagles. One local columnist is even asking which of Reid's top assistants -- offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and defensive coordinator Jim Johnson -- would be better suited to taking the job if Reid were to step down:
This isn't breaking news, just pure speculation.
But it seems possible that Eagles coach Andy Reid could step away from his demanding duties to focus on family matters in the wake of last week's devastating developments with his two oldest sons.
And where would that leave the Eagles?
It would leave the Eagles in a lot of trouble. Reid is a good coach who has the team playing well. I think we're getting ahead of ourselves, though. If Reid's sons were 13 and 11, I could see why resignation would be discussed, but they're 23 and 21. Reid should stay on the job. But he also should say something publicly, starting with expressing remorse for the people his sons hurt.
