So 3 games have passed since my last entry. 3 losses, so there is alot to reflect on. Here are some takeaways in regards to adding talent via the 2020 draft.

-CB: This is a need position to me. None of the top 4 on the depth chart are looking like guys that would be worth there 2nd contract. Jones amd Brown the decision needs to be made after the season. Lewis and Awuzie will get 1 more look. However we need to add starting caliber talent here.

-TE: A position Ive harped on since the last draft, Im convinced now Jarwin is not a future starter. As far as needs go, they may be able the kick the can here again if value isnt present. But at some point they are going to have to add a starting caliber TE.

-DT: May be the position right now where we have the highest talent deficit. I expect Marinelli to be gone in 2020. If Richard has the DC job officially, I can see some changes on the DL. Seattle made use of bigger DT's using the Gus Bradley model that Richards uses. Even if we have a different DC, I feel we need to add some serious talent here. Would not rule out 2 DT's in the first 150 picks.

I would 100% add safety to that list of needs.

Both strong and free need upgrading imo. Woods has looked very average back there despite the posters here thinking he is an answer.

Wouldnt agrue with you. I highlighted Safety last time, and not a ton has changed the last 3 weeks, so I skipped talking about it this go around

Either people are sleeping on this kid or I am way too high on him, but I really like this corner:
Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech, 6-2, 207
https://hokiesports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=9546

3 picks so far this year. Great size, speed and athleticism needs to be more physical. Was an all-state QB in North Carolina, so he's still learning the position. It's possible that since he's a redshirt sophomore that people don't think he'll declare but every time I watch the Hokies play, he pops.

from this article..
https://247sports.com/college/miami...on-their-2019-schedule-133685093/#133685093_1

Tidbit on why Farley is a freak: “The 6-2 Farley, who came to Blacksburg around 170 pounds, is now 202 pounds and runs the 40 in the 4.35-4.40 range. As a high school junior, he finished second in the state in the 100 meters with a 10.77. He enrolled early, so he didn’t get to run track as a senior.”

-TE: A position Ive harped on since the last draft, Im convinced now Jarwin is not a future starter. As far as needs go, they may be able the kick the can here again if value isnt present. But at some point they are going to have to add a starting caliber TE.

A poster here turned me onto him but since then I have been enamored with
Cole Kmet, Notre Dame, 6-5, 250
https://und.com/roster/cole-kmet/

He's another great Irish Tight End and he did whatever he wanted against my Trojans this past Saturday. Great athleticism for a big man, he's in the George Kittle, Travis Kelce, Zack Ertz mold.

If we're bad, Derrick Brown from Auburn (6-5/318)...

1Tech size and strength with 3Tech-like qualities.

If we're middle of the pack, Javon Kinlaw from South Carolina (6-6/310)..
https://gamecocksonline.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6338

Kinlaw is the type of player, lots of raw athleticism, that McClay seems to gravitate towards.

I dont think we will be bad enough for Brown, but I think Kinlaw could develop into a player that can both anchor and penetrate. We arent going to draft a anchor high unless he also 3 Tech. If that guy is there, he would probably be a priority. They were enamored with Vea a couple years ago

I like all those guys you listed. We need 2 DT’s because the Hill don’t fit the bill.

I'd love Kinlaw...or Rashad Lawrence,Lsu...but I don't think they'll take a DT.
should.
but I'll believe it when I see it.
having said that....Kinlaw seems to meet the physical requirements they like.

Robert Windsor
#54, DT,
Penn State Nittany Lions

The fifth-year senior from Fond Du Lac, Wisc., was not totally void of praise this offseason. Gil Brandt, who is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and one of the most respected talent evaluators in the business, called Windsor one of college football’s top-five returning defensive tackles in May. Two months later, the 6-foot-4, 295-pound former second-team All-Big Ten pick was named to the Outland Trophy watch list. The award is given to the nation’s best interior defender at the end of the season.

I want a tall WR receiver
I dont see us going WR on the first two days unless something silly happens with Cooper. I could see them adding to the position on day 3 though. Its supposed to be a good WR draft

What im gonna try to do until the season is not look discount types or positions due to this current staffs preference. Reason being: I think there is a good chance we have a staff overhaul after the season. Alot of what we have been looking at may be out the door

I have a feeling the teams outlook on certain positions will change now the Rod will finally be a free agent.

They'll still be cheap **, but hoping they'll invest in some positions they've ignored for 5+ years.

Way I see it is they'll probably tender A. Woods with a 2nd rounder so they can keep him one more year for a cheap cost. Let Collins walk. Maybe entertain the idea of Covington staying depending on the offers he gets.
So, in their eyes the DT spot isn't a desperate need, but needs some love if the draft falls a certain way.

Definitely will reload at corner in day 1/2, IMO

TE on the menu again in the mid rounds more than likely. Shame Breeland got a season ending injury. Was looking good so far with Herbert. Another guy under the radar I think may be a good day 3 pick is Harrison Bryant out of FAU.

Some good takes here John. Its gonna be real interesting personel wise if we do have some coaching changes. We probably will see Woods here another year. Even as a 2 down player, he was at least solid year. Hasnt much opportunity to play this year due to injury. I think even if we draft a DT relativere high, Woods would still be getting steady snaps
