Predictions are overrated these days.
There was a time when humility was thought to be a virtue and people were always careful to respect their opponents. No one (relatively speaking) ran off at the mouth, they let the game speak for them.
If there WERE predictions made, they were thoughtfully considered before they were offered, and there was the acknowledgement that "on any given day" it could be proven dead wrong.
That is why when Joe Namath came out with a "guarantee" prior to their Super Bowl win over the Colts it was news. Now a days we have WR's guaranteeing victory, offensive lineman guaranteeing victories.
It means nothing.
And on this board it means nothing. If you are RIGHT you have nothing to boast of, because what is it costing you to do it?
I can predict right now that we will run the table and win the Super Bowl. If it turns out that Dallas does this, does it mean that Fox Sports will hire me?
No. Nor should they. Why? Because what was on the line FOR ME? Nothing. What did it reflect, some penetrating analysis of Football? No, a FAN who WANTS his team to win so PREDICTS they will. Plain and simple.
So, when I see "predictions" on this board come true, I really don't feel the need to offer kudos. Anyone can "predict" anything, its just a matter of words. Is it really based on football knowledge, or a fan's "hopes" one way or the other? I really think that a lot of the "predictions" on this board about a lot of things have nothing to do with football or the team, or interesting discussion of future possibilities, rather it simply reflects a person's desire to boast.
Just my opinion.
