-Swing Tackle

Team decided against picking up the option for Fleming, their swing tackle last season. Who replaces him in this role?

-Defensive End

The Cowboys decided to let Robert Quinn depart via fa. They have Crawford coming off of major surgery on both of his hips. Team has two suspended players who haven't played any kind of football in a while. Bunch of prospects behind them, including a 5th rd selection.

-Starting CB

Bryon Jones left via fa, team resigned Anthony Brown and added veteran Worley to the position. Team used a premium selection on Trevon Diggs, added a developmental Corner with their 1st day 3 selection. There is talk, they may move their best CB in Awuzie to Safety. Many numbers, how does it all shake out?

-Safety

Team did sign a former Packer player under MM in Clinton-Dix. Xavier Woods is playing on his last year of his contract. Wilson has ties with his new Safety Coach. If Awuzie is added to the group, who starts? Do they play more three safety alignments? Could either Woods/Awuzie factor in as the team's nickel CB?

-Interior OL

Connor Williams is coming off of an acl injury. Connor McGovern in essence had a redshirt year. Team drafted a high rated Center with injury concerns. Looney was brought back. Who replaces Travis at Center? Who starts at Guard? Who becomes the gameday backup? With they consider starting two rookies within the interior?

Only big question for me is the interior of the Oline. I have no doubt that Diggs will be one of the starting corners and safety seems set to me.

Who knows what training camp and preseason will look like this year? All those issues will be resolved by the season opener. All that really matters. The players that will fill those holes are on the roster. That will help a bunch.

We will have time to bring in a few more players. I think we have enough in the O-Line to get it done. Glad we kept Looney.

We drafted a good corner and have Brown and Cheeto. We still have Lewis. We are fine there.

Safety will be interesting. We have a few young players in Wilson and Thompson. I am not sold on Dix. I guess because I watched us burn him several games.

I hope Biadasz and McGovern start so Williams can be our swing tackle.

I expect Diggs and Worley to be our starting CB's, with Ha Ha at SS and Chido at FS.

IMO Crawford should be our starting LDE while DLaw is our starting RDE.

So that's five new starters on defense and three new starters on offense, for me.

We could very easily sign one of a few available free agents before training camp that could work as a swing tackle.

-Swing Tackle
Connor Williams

-Defensive End
Aldon and Randy have one end, Tank and Anea have the other end and don't forget about Dorance Armstrong

-Starting CB
Anthony Brown, Jourdan Lewis and Trevon Diggs have the CB position covered

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Chidobe Awuzie, Xavier Woods have this position locked down

-Interior OL
Tyron Smith and La'el Collins are givens as our OTs so interior OL will be Zack Martin, Tyler Biadasz, and Conner McGovern

I don't see the need to sign or trade for anyone at this point unless an Andy Dalton situation falls in your lap. They have numbers and young guys at all positions. Let it play out and see what you have in all the new players. There will be surprise guys available later on and unexpected trade opportunities to come. It happens every year. Don't just make moves to make moves. Wait for the right player and pounce.

A swing tackle who hasn’t played an nfl snaps at tackle probably not a great idea
I’m hoping knight has taken another step in his growth

Brandon Knight started and played a full game in 2019...

I think the roster is pretty well set, once Gregory and Smith are re-instated. And if not, I still see them rolling into TC with Anae, Jelks, Jackson, Armstrong. See what they can do. They also have the option for Crawford to compete there, and is probably the penciled is starter for now.
Then will look at options and who is available if they do not like what they see. So no Clowney or Griffin in the short future leading up to TC.

May see some churning of the bottom 3 or 4 spots here and there before TC. Like a few of the UDFA's.
Not sure how many spots are open, I have not updated my list for a few weeks. But I think they have 90 spots filled, since they released Rush to make room for Dalton, from the article that was posted in another thread.

Yep but even Knight hasn't played LT, at least after HS.

I posted a few weeks ago that I wasnt sure that Williams should compete at LG if they saw him as a swing tackle.

He played LT at a high level in college. He can be a capable swing tackle if they put him there in camp and not on the fly after losing out on starting LG.

It's all about having multiple possibilities and then seeing what happens in training camp.

They have multiple options everywhere except Swing Tackle.

The only options at Swing Tackle:
  • Brandon Knight started 1 game in 2019 at RT.
  • Hyatt was on the practice squad in 2019.
  • Wyatt Miller was a 2019 UDFA originally signed by the Jets.
    • He was signed to the Cowboys 53 before the final game of 2019 but was inactive.
  • Connor Williams might have been an option but he is returning from a major knee injury.
  • They signed a UDFA that seems highly unlikely to be ready in 2020.
DE
  • DLaw
  • Crawford
  • Gregory
  • Aldon Smith
  • Armstrong
  • Joe Jackson
  • Jalen Jelks
  • Draft Pick Anae
  • Multiple UDFAs
CB
  • Awuzie
  • Diggs
  • Daryl Worley
  • Brown
  • Lewis
  • Robinson
  • Maurice Canady
  • Deante Burton
  • Chris Westry

Safety
  • HaHa
  • Woods
  • Thompson
  • Donovan Wilson
  • Awuzie or Worley
  • UDFA Luther Kirk

OC
  • Looney
  • McGovern
  • Biadasz

LG

  • Connor Williams
  • McGovern
  • Cody Wichmann
  • Looney
  • Brandon Knight

I look at the roster and see very good talent on this team especially on offense. However it is not good enough to have talent you have to utilize the talent to get the most out of them. This is where McCarthy and Moore working together need to succeed. In my view the talent is there, how these coaches use them will determine the outcome.

Williams has been playing out of position. Did you not see Conner Williams play Tackle with Texas? He can do that job, he's more suited to doing that job. It's probably not a great idea for you to say things you have no clue about. Hook'em Horns and Go Cowboys!!!

If the Cowboys have this many holes, several players definately need to be cut.

Little concern about backup Tackle as both Tyron and Collins have misses many games in the past.

Not overly. No more than other years. I am hoping that McGovern wins the guard spot and Williams goes to swing tackle.

IIRC he only gave up one sack playing tackle at Texas and that was against Myles Garrett.

Here lies the problem as I see it with Connor Williams:

-He is coming off of a major injury
-Expected to compete to become the starting LG
-Most likely won't see any action at all at Tackle

I just don't believe he becomes the back up tackle unless they move him to that position full-time.
