Mickey Spags mentioned that the microphone/headset problems were due to frequency overlap. He was having them when he was trying to report from the sidelines and it didnt get solved until the Cowboy's second drive.

I'm starting to think the CB head turning issue is one of coaching. Think about it. Our CBs, even the good one have had this problem for a REALLY long time. What's the constant here? Dave Campo. Then again, our CBs didn't really turn their heads under Parcels either and Campo wasn't here at the time. Maybe it's not Dave Campo...he's coached some good CBs in his time.

In 2007, with Bowles as secondary coach, the Cowboys had no problem playing the ball. In 2008, under Campo, the Cowboys problems in the secondary (big cushions, lack of INTs) started up again. Campo is a stickler for technique. His technique is focused on playing the man, not the ball.

That said, Campo is not keen on his corners pressing receivers, he would rather play man off. Under Jimmy, his corners pressed more, but after Jimmy he had his corners play a lot of man off and zone, only Deion would press consistently (actually Deion played however he wanted to). Recall that Campo coached Jimmy's 4-3, but Jimmy's was an attacking 4-3, Campo preferred bend but don't break. Preventing the big play, instead of creating one is the philosophy shift from Jimmy, even tho the schemes look identical.

I understand your thinking on corners turning their heads, but all good cbs turn their heads at some point. However, in Dallas it seems that our cbs dont turn their head or told not too. Thats the point I am trying to make. It's all about techniques and teaching from the coaching staff.

unfortunately this is a characteristic of Campo's tutelage...his corners have always failed in this regard...

i dont remember of any sloppy teams during the season under jimmy johnson after 1990 season.

I didn't say Jimmy had sloppy teams. I said I remember sloppy preseason games in his tenure and him being really upset about how the team played. Just like Wade Phillips was last night.

I remember the team acting like it had tired, dead legs from camp... just like the team looked last night.

Considering Phillips is running a tougher camp this year it isn't a huge surprise that the team had dead legs. Throw in the fact that it is the first preseason game and the fact that the team had to fly to the west coast, and it is no shock that the team looked lethargic.

Just remember that the first team offense went through their first team defense like a hot knife through butter. In a 70-something yard drive... they never even had a third down, much less a 4th.

Also remember that even without our starting CB's, the first team defense looked like they could have held the Raiders starting offense to 3 points all night.

No offense to you man... but what you're doing is a gross over-reaction to what happend last night. Argue all you want, but it is the truth.

Heck, the best preseason that I've seen the Cowboys have was 1989 in Jimmy Johnson's first year in Dallas. They looked sharp in all 4 preseason games, winning them all.

No, we were 3-1.

Gross over-reaction across the board.

I'd say most of the reactions have accurately reflected what we saw last night. The extremists on both sides are few and far between.

think about it, parcells didnt have full control of the 53 man roster, remember he had to get along with larry allen etc due to jerry jones

wade pretty well got 4 players he coached this year, got draft picks in players he wanted, got rid of T O, pacman, tank johnson, etc

wade says savaii is doing ok so thats our backup at nt

only thing wade didnt get coordinators that he wanted

while parcells had to accept defensive coordinators, and def coaches
parcells had to put up with t o and larry allen, etc

so yes, wade has gotten more

I was wondering if we hadn't lost one of those in 89. I knew it was either 4-0 or 3-1. My point still stands though.

And I have seen plenty of over reactions today. I would say that if you draw much of a conclusion from anything, good or bad, that we saw last night, you would be bordering on over reacting. It was the first preseason game, which means not much in the scheme of things.

I didn' know Juniors number when I saw him pressuring the QB into dumping off or throwing screen to the left side. But when the dust cleared Jr. had the dude by the legs and was getting up. I had a flash back of Larry Allen running down line backer who had intercepted us. But it was #78.

Quality Control coaches jobs are to break film down, sort it into downs, distances, tendencies, etc.

Get the scout team the information they need to give looks.

I don't know where in the world you got the idea they are personnel gurus.

For a team that has emphasized interceptions in training camp, you'd think turning your head to find the ball would be one way to achieve the goal. But, a lot of good CBs have been successful reading the receiver's eyes.

My biggest problem with the game last night was the lack of scoring by the second team. If Kitna is going to ably fill in for Romo, he needs to get the ball into the end zone. I think he would have on the drive just before the half, and the screwups weren't his fault, but Choice looked god, Bennett looked good, Hurd looked good, so what was the problem.

Newman didn't get hurt on punts last year. He was covering someone on defense when they went to the ground and a third player came in and fell on him when he was already stretched out in an awkward position.

And where is Wes supposed to find a punt returner?

I've always liked McQuarters, though.

And this "corners turning their heads" thing always has cracked me up. It's obviously from people who never played corner before or covered man to man. Brown just isn't a good corner and Mickens was a rookie playing his first NFL game ever. Not a surprise they didn't cover well.
From someone who has played orner..The rookies were slow footed and uncertain..Who was supposed to cover the TE on his TD catch? Watkins? Watkins was nowhere around? As usual, the secondary will keep Dallas out of the playoffs again.
