There are tons of different surgical procedures these days-especially for athletes. You may have heard the phrase that there are no “no risk” surgeries when placed under general anesthesia. That is true, but just in reference to Tyler Smith’s recent surgery-try to remember that many surgeries are not fully successful. According to reports, this is a torn thumb ligament surgery that has been discussed as an option for a while now. That just means that he has not been willing to do the surgery until he exhausted his time to see if he could recover or play through it. He must agree with the physicians and team doctors to go under the knife. The procedure has a small chance for irrevocably altering his grip strength-and though it’s a small chance he should get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his lifetime health. Season timeline is not always a priority when these decisions get made.
