First, let me make it very clear who I feel is to blame for the mess with what the team is in. First person that the problem should lay at the door of is Jerry Jones. Sure, Jerry makes money and he is good at it, and building things for the cowboys with the stadium, making nike bids and other money making things. Jerry Jones main thing and what will always be for is the image of the Dallas Cowboys, and ratings. Now, ratings can be good and bad, but as long as jerry jones is getting publicity, he is making money from ratings, good or bad. Thats the nature of the business side and I understand that. I do know that jerry cares about winning and wants to win some more superbowls. His heart is in the right place.

Yet, ever since Jimmy Johnson left the Dallas Cowboys, accountability to the the players, coaches and management has been lacking somewhat with disciplline. Like we all know how players went behind parcells back and complained somewhat to Jerry, like T O and Greg Elllis did.

The laid back attitude of holding players accoutable for their mistakes, with disciplining them with money, peer pressure, fines, money incentives, laps of running, and other means has been lacking ever since Jimmy left to a large degree.

Sure, I want Jerry Jones to succeed, dont misunderstand me. I realize that Jerry is the owner and gm, and he is never going to leave. Would be silly to think that jerry would step down after all he has put into this team with his family and himself.

Now, lets move on, to some things some of you might not be aware. On the Miles Austin penalty on touchdown, if you look at Cowboys Countdown, I sent a message to DcFanatic for him to post the video or hopefully theebs will post it, but there is a new angle you can see the defender that fell down because of Miles Austin shove, before Miles stiff armed the db, the defender reaches out with one of his arms and stiff arms Miles Austin in the rib area, so Miles reaches back and pushes off. Thats what I saw, so maybe DC can find that podcast and put it up, but I dont think the defender locked his arm completely out, but he did stiff arm miles.

Now, lets look at another area, on the kickoff return for a touchdown. On very coverage from cowboys countdown with Nate Newton, Sam Hurd is on the left side as he he going downfield, Sam cuts across to the right side fully leaving his assigned area from what I could see to try and make a tackle, but as you all know Harvin cut back with a counter to the left, and boom area sam hurd vacated left a wide open area.

now, lets look at another area, from what i heard, when favre fumbled, and picked up the ball, bradie james left his assignment to blitz in and try to recover the ball, with his eyes lit up like the radio personnel said, leaving the offensive player wide open for a big game. Best I remember, this happened in another game, on the bear game i think, announcers were thinking was bradie james responibility and he left and blitzed, and player was wide open.

Just like the hook them horns sign by roy williams and sam hurd, but i think chocolate lab or someone posted it, that the nfl put up the penalty was said by ref that penalty was on miles austin when miles leapfrogged roy w. Even on hte document that the person put up on the post, said miles austin charged 15 yards for penalty, yet nfl now says was sam hurd, and you all know how wade said that a ref on sideline told him penalty was on austin.

Since we have been committing penalties with no accountability and discipline from coaching staff and jerry jones, because they are enablers letting the players get away with errors in practice. Why do i say this.

A few weeks ago, demarcus ware said that before when errors were committe on the field in practice that the cowboys would wait till film study to talk about the errors or penalties (even jay ratliff said once, when asked, that the penalties were more on the players and not coached up like in high schooll and college). or fix the problems the next day in practice. So, are the cowboys coaches and jerry jones really been discipllining the players, so they wouldnt commit same errors in games. NO! not from what ive heard.

So, its all of the above, for jerry jones allowing this to go on in practices, and training camp, (remember now, wade said he was going to spend one week during the season on penalties, what the heck was training camp for? Oh yeah, working in shorts, and groups, while (even newman said this, some players when wade had his little groups working) that some players were just standing around, goofing off.

Is that the way you should really run practices?

Now, think about this, way back once, lincoln coleman goofed up, aikman grabbed him by the jersey on the field during a game, and said something like your not going to mess this up. Then, think about this, deangelo hall said the other day, this is my defense. Where are the leaders on this team, seeing that players dont mess up in practices. Do you all know what Charles Haley told Aikman once, something like if their not doing what you tell them Troy, tell me, I will see that they do it, because if they mess up, their messing with my money and chance to get to superbowl. Some of the players feared Charles Haley.

Do the players really fear or respect wade as a head coach, or do they just put up with him. Sure, they say they love him, but do you really love a person, when you continually make mistakes that hurt the team, the coaches and jerry jones. Are some players so intent on being noticed and want light shown on them for some big plays, but its ok for them to make some mistakes, no big deal.

Some things to ponder, I could go on like i have heard some coaches screaming at players for being late to team meetings or late to practice.

Is this then really a team with a head coach that the players fear or respect and honestly focusing on the game in critical situations?

Just like when wade admitted that he was on the headphones to his defensive personnel when our offense was on the field in the Commanders game at the almost end before the first half ended, and wade said he goofed up for not calling a kneel down.

Who then is in really control of this team. Just like columbo goofup when he fell down, wade says, well you cant take emotion out of the game, but after a 2nd goof up, in vikings game, wade now says, there will be no more celebrations for players to hotdog it, and show off, that should have been said after first goof up, but wade continually waits and waits to fix things, and it costs us games.

So, its acombination of all the above, jerry jones for allowing this, (what other team has ever hired an offensive coordinator first, then the head coach), then wade, and other coaches, and then the players.

I could go on, but I think most of you get the drift. To me, Jerry has to admit there is a problem with the laid back attitude of the team with penalties and mistakes, and not truly honestly discipling the players like they should be disciplined.

There should be no more excuses, and wade and jerry should enable the players with excuses, just like if you were at a job, either you do your job right, or your gone.

And yes, whether fair or not, the nfl refs are going to be looking at the cowboys players from now on for mistakes and penalties, because the cowboys players have made them. I looked at the rules from what commissioner said about accessive touchdown celebrations, and goodell said that they didnt want the refs to make decisions on their thinking, but actual rules. But if you look at the vikes game, and titans game, you see where refs called plays against us, and notthe titans or vikings. Example, peterson knelt down on ground, penalty by columbo decision. Titans player rb standing on the cowboys star helmet, penalty, right before vikings game ended favre runs onto the field with his helmet off, penalty. The refs are making decisions based on their thinking, not actual rules, and goodell said he didnt want refs to do that. I posted an article about that, you can go read it.

Cowboys players and coaches and jerry jones have no one to blame but themselves for allowing this attitude of the players to not be focused in game type situations. Just like Randy white said once, when you play with bad habits of not tackling, jumping offsided, or too many players on the field, when you allow this type of atmosphere on the practice field, with no hittting and tackling some in practice in pades for game type simulation, your going to commit the same bone headed mistakes in games.

Just my thoughts on whats wrong and why.

Yep, it's in the official NFL Gamebook, a little over halfway down.

3-6-MIN 15 (5:06) (Shotgun) T.Romo pass short middle to R.Williams for 15 yards, TOUCHDOWN.

D.Buehler extra point is GOOD, Center-L.Ladouceur, Holder-M.McBriar.

PENALTY on DAL-M.Austin, Unsportsmanlike Conduct, 15 yards, enforced between downs.

here is what goodell said about not wanting refs to make decisions on excessive touchdowns celebrations;

No excessive celebration did it come from Goodell? You decide!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note, I made this post since we have now had 2 excessive penalties on touchdown celebrations, this to me is what goodell wanted, so if you want to do any complaining, complain at Goodell.

Q: You were a high school athlete who scored many baskets and touchdowns, so you know the feeling of fans cheering for you and chanting your name. NFL players are having 50,000 people cheering for them when they get in the end zone, and they want to have fun. Do you care about the No Fun League moniker? Why are celebrations penalized? What about the one in Arizona after the safety last weekend?

It’s not that we don’t allow them to embrace the crowd and share the enthusiasm of the moment. We don’t want [referees] making determinations about what is a good celebration and what is a bad celebration. So we came up with standards that would allow the players to reflect the game and be respective of the game. When you get into those kinds of premeditated acts – like the one in Arizona last weekend – they become unsportsmanlike. They become taunting. And it causes the other team to retaliate in a negative fashion. The celebration in Arizona wasn’t emotion, it was a premeditated act.

http://thebiglead.com/index.php/2009...roger-goodell/

No Fun League" continues

Goodell has continued in the footsteps of his predecessor (Paul Tagliabue) in fining players who engage in "excessive celebration."

I by no means want sportsmanship in the NFL to suffer, but we must remember that the NFL is, at heart, entertainment.

Are Chad Johnson's (sorry, Ochocinco's) celebrations a vital threat to the heart of the sport?

Is Wes Welker's snow angel celebration (yes, he got fined for that) showing up an opponent?

There are occasions when such actions go beyond what is acceptable (Keyshawn Johnson's "throat slashing" comes to mind), but that is precisely why the commissioner is given discretion in such matters—so he can determine when a celebration is fine-worthy and when it is not. So again, this is what goodell wanted so complain at him.

The NFL remains incredibly popular, to be sure, but I feel it has made a series of missteps that severely hinder the product on the field. Should the league continue down this road, I believe it could be overtaken by other sports.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2...irst-two-years

This has to do with excessive celebration which the league has always taken a proactive role to try and stop; you’ve got the 15-yard penalty on kickoff. It seems, without knowing statistics though, that there are some players who could care less about that and are seemingly repeat offenders. Any thought of taking it a stop further, even radically taking away the play and penalizing 15 yards and taking away a touchdown? Don’t you think that would stop it in its tracks?

“Right now, we deal with it the way we deal with most issues and violations of policies which are: there’s a penalty on the field and if necessary, we will fine for that. I don’t sense that that we need to do an awful lot more on that. We’ve been aggressive in enforcing our policies, and we think we’ve found a balance with respect to the excessive celebration. When it becomes excessive, it’s unsportsmanlike and it becomes taunting, and it usually gets a response from the opposing team, which is usually not good. We think it is important as far as sportsmanship that when you achieve something great on the field, be professional. Deal with it. You are going to go make another play. I think our policy serves us well, and I think the way we enforce it serves us well. We do a good job with it.”

The reason the CB fell down was not the stiff arm...it's Austin stepping on the CB's foot which caused him to go down. Running full speed it appears to be the push, but if you watch closely at his feet, it shows otherwise.

Just another unbelievably frustrating play in the season of 2010-11.

I agree that the team lacks discipline and I hope it does change with a coaching change in the near future.

But I can't seem for the likes of me agree with that excessive celebration penalty against us. We maybe an undisciplined team. But that was just a bad, bad call. So we maybe disciplined for other things but I believe our team had no control over that call whatsoever.

maybe true, i didnt see the foot being stepped on, but the refs said because of the stiff arm, is why penalty was called, but the defender did push off on austin too, but you can only see that in the video of cowboys countdown with nate newton, other video views you cant see that angle

by rule states if you lock your arm out, its interference, best i remember

which basically is the old michael irvin penalty of pushing off

true, thats why its a bad call because up in document i posted above with statement from goodell he said that he didnt want refs making decisons like that based on their conclusions

We don’t want [referees] making determinations about what is a good celebration and what is a bad celebration. So we came up with standards that would allow the players to reflect the game and be respective of the game.

but the refs were doing exactly what goodell didnt want them to do, thats on goodell and the refs, and it stinks

:bang2: but i thought some of you might want to know

On the Austin td that was called back, the hand checks were mutual and incidental. Austin steps on Asher's toe, and that's what causes Asher to go down. You can see it in bbgun's grab of the play here:

This is why the Colts offense is a well oiled machine most of the time. I guarantee that if at any point in time some one makes a mistake in practice they get the wrath of Manning and I would also bet they try their hardest to avoid it.

Its like in the movie office space when they ask him about all his bosses and he says he works just hard enough so he doesnt have to hear from his bosses. It is human nature and Im sure it goes on in the NFL as much as any where else.

One thing I really respect about Manning is that if a play breaks down, and leads to an INT and so forth, he makes it a very big deal about it.

I remember one time he threw an INT. When he went to the sidelines I thought he was going to rip open his OC for giving him a call. Then I saw him discussing the play with the OC has if HE was the one in charge.

I wish Romo was like that. I want Romo to go right up to Garrett and tell him in his face what kind of plays he expects. If Romo throws a pic I want him and Garrett on the sidelines discussing it in detail. And I want Romo to say to Garrett never, ever give me that play again if it keeps ending up as an INT.

Looking back on all our INTs (7), most if not all have been targeting Tight ends and or have been tipped close to the LOS.

This means that teams know when a pass is coming to our tightends. Romo and Garrett needs to make fix that problem right away and make sure it never happens.

I just wish Romo would quit throwing interceptions on our side of the field. It doesn't give the defense much of a chance.

my question is this, and maybe someone can answer, because ware said it, at one time, in practices, when errors or mistakes were made on the field, the old way cowboys addressed the problem, meaning the coaches, they would wait till film study or the next day in practice to fix the problem, but ware went on to say a few weeks ago, that now, when errors or mistakes or made, romo gets with the players and fixes it right then, working out the kinks

why wasnt that done by the coaches in the first place, and what the heck was training camp was for if you didnt fix mistakes, penalties, errors on the field, but you waited till film study or the next day in practice

why?

Good question Joe. Every coach that I ever played for made you run a play till it was run correctly. You fixed any mistakes then and there. After running the same play 4 or 5 times , other players put pressure on the one screwing-up. It works.

thats the point im trying to make, then what the heck was going on in training camp and up until tony romo was fixing things in practice, what in the heck were the coaches, especially wade doing?

thats the way the cowboys did it back in early 90s, they prefected things, and had some simple basic plays, and told teams, this is what we do, try and stop us, or the lombardi plays with the old famous packer sweep, they perfected it, till players had it down with no mistakes in practice

what in the heck was wade doing with this team, ?

cowboyjoe;3632935 said:
thanks buddy

I'm surprised nobody thinks that's more interesting. Stepping on the foot is incidental, and shouldn't have resulted in a flag. So that was 7 points that were just taken off the board by the wrong call unless you think the hand-checking was interference, too. At worst, the hand-checking was initiated by the CB and should have either been DPI or offsetting.

It is different coaching than anything I`ve heard of. A player screws up a play, so you just go to the next play. No correction. It shows up in every game.

Couple things...

First, to me it appears that the defender was just checking Miles on that play and really didn't do anything to obstruct Miles' progress; however, it looked fairly obvious that Miles pushed off. Sure, Austin also stepped on Asher's foot which appears to have contributed to Asher falling down, but he also pushed off at the same time. The replay shows this.

Second, on that Favre fumble, I think it was Jason Williams who was supposed to cover Kleinsasser, not James.

Pretty clearly, the defender puts his hand on Miles, and Miles does what every WR does in that situation and extends his arm to discourage the contact. He doesn't even lock his elbow.

He does step on the CB's foot, though, which is what takes the guy down.

I think it was a blown call.

I think you're right on the JW call.

my question is this, and maybe someone can answer, because ware said it, at one time, in practices, when errors or mistakes were made on the field, the old way cowboys addressed the problem, meaning the coaches, they would wait till film study or the next day in practice to fix the problem, but ware went on to say a few weeks ago, that now, when errors or mistakes or made, romo gets with the players and fixes it right then, working out the kinks

why wasnt that done by the coaches in the first place, and what the heck was training camp was for if you didnt fix mistakes, penalties, errors on the field, but you waited till film study or the next day in practice

why?

Just seems crazy to me that they would let the mistake happen and not comment on it right then and there when you are in the right mindset. I thought that is what practice is for. It seems so stupid that it is actually hard to believe but then again with this team nothing surprises me any more. If I did the same thing 10 times in practice, Im not sure it would matter what they told me in film sessions my body and mind have already been conditioned to play it that way. I thought the reason for practice was to get it right so when it comes up in the game it happens naturally.
