Not everyone got to see the game so i'll give you some opinions from my perspective.

Lets start with Romo. I thought he looked good last night. Buying time, making accurate throws, and just doing what he does.

Roy Williams had a nice possesion catch for about 12 yards and would've had a bigger play downfield but drew the pass interference. People shouldn't worry about this guy.

Marty B looked impressive as a receiver and as a blocker. I can't wait to see all the things we are going to do with this guy vs defense.

Felix Jones will be electric obviously. Every touch he gets you just wait for a big play.

Tashard looked solid when he was out there. He had a nice run called back for holding. Im still worried about his ability to get the tough yard though. You people who want to get rid of Marion Barber should hold out on that at least until Tashard proves he can do this.

I was super impressed with Sam Hurd. He has always been an acrobatic player and he has taken his game to another level.

He just looked a lot more explosive than he has in the past. He was to much for the Raiders 2nd teamers. He looked like a man among boys out there.

I think he has big play potential and people need to watch out for him to make a impact this year.

Kitna is an obvious upgrade over what we had back there last year.

I felt like Doug Free had a good showing. He flinched one time and didn't get called for it and only got beat 1 time.

A problem it looked he had though was that he lunges forward a little to much. He needs to correct this because the good D End wills use that against him.

I was super impressed with McGee's Physical abilities. He has really good feet and I felt like he did a ok job of taking care of the ball and not trying to do to much.

It will be a blast watching this guy develop that is for sure.

On defense I thought Courtney Brown looked awful. He just kept getting beat. I thought Bobby Carpenter looked terrific in coverage so lets hope he can keep that up.

Anthony Spencer had a very nice open field tackle early in the game 1 on 1 vs a RB.

At this point I would be scared if Spencer or Ware got hurt based on what I saw from the Rookie OLB's. Hopefully they'll pick up there game the closer we get to the regular season.

Jason Williams looked really raw as well but you can definetely see the physical ability he has.

Gerald Sensabaugh also made some nice plays in coverage. He had a PI called against him down field that was a little ticky tacky though.

He did get juked out by J. Russell. It was pretty pathetic but its the pre-season so ill let it slide.

IT was exciting to see the guys get back out there and next week should be just as fun vs Tennessee.

I think Spencer was the guy that missed Russell in the open field on that one scramble he had.

From everything I've read about Sam Hurd, he does have a great work ethic. I'm excited about his potential as well and I expect him to move the chains every now and then.

I'm concerned that the first play of the game ended up with a Cowboys penalty.

I'm concerned that the first offensive play of the game ended up with a batted pass that nearly got picxked off for a Raider TD.

I'm concerned that Romo held onto the ball much too long on too many plays.

I'm concerned that a TD run by Barber was called back due to a holding penalty.

I'm concerned...oh heck, I'm getting depresed the more I type.

The bottom line is that I saw NOTHING that showed me that the team had a new focus and sense of urgency this season. Sorry, but I didn't see "the change".

With emphasis on scaled back plays and fundamentals in preseason, once again, the Cowboys showed that they have no handle on the fundamentals. So far it seems that doing things "The Cowboy Way" is consistent with doing things last year's way.

Hey, I'm done with sugar-coating; I'm just calling it like I see it.

Unfortunately! :(

I've seen people who have never really been impressed with the guy but he has always impressed me from his rookie season.

He is just a guy who gets it. He is a beast on special teams, he was our 3rd receiver in 07, and he made the team with Bill Parcells coaching at a very young age.

I notice a lot of Cowboy fans don't really have any type of acknowledgement for player development and it looks like Sam Hurd is going to be another guy that the fans thought was as good as he was going to get but it looks like a lot of Cowboys fans will be wrong again about him.

He treats his job like a professional athlete should.

around 98% of the people posting here don't want to read that.

at the excuse-o-rama sugar coating is the Wade, Jerry & Jason's favorite flavor.

as worthless as preseason is, the fact is that it's sad this season itself is worthless until playoffs begin and even then anything less than a victory (or a few) is futile.

i really doubt this team & coaching staff can handle that pressure.

anyone expecting a smarter or better executing team is in for a letdown.

I always thought he had the best hands on the team.

My thoughts on the game:

Can the guys with the super fast feeds not immediately say what happens on every play in the game chat? Excited reactions and generally talking about what's going on in the game are one thing, but detailed play by plays when they're one or two plays ahead of most people's feeds makes the chat unwatchable.

If people who can't see the game need play by plays they can look at NFL.com.

I'll say this for Hurd: he's one of the most physically fit players on the team. It's obvious that TO's work ethic in conditioning rubbed off on Hurd.

I don't think Hurd will ever be anything more than a decent backup, but I do appreciate the effort that he gives.

Patience, your expectations could be to high. Its just preseason, and there will be plenty of time in the regualy season for Flozel to get false start and Romo to throw a critical INT. Now is the time for Football Fans to practice the tailgate parties, tune up the HD TV and home theaters, not bash the boys

Party pooper.

I also liked how we spread the ball around on that 2nd drive.

I loved it.

Except for his blocking. He missed a blitz pickup that gave the Raiders their only sack.

Only one rookie OLB played -- Butler. He looked good rushing the passer and on special teams but not so good against the run.

I 2nd that, but more importantly in the game thread. We dont need everyone saying "3rd and 3, Barber up the middle for 4"

It just takes up space when the majority of the posters already know whats going on.

Yeah, that's even worse. There's absolutely zero need for play by play in a game thread.

That's just post padding.

Yes, I'll give you that, but they played sloppy all game long. They were clearly unprepared and showed no sense of urgency as a team.

Is there a particular 1st preseason game of the year that you are using as a benchmark here?

Americas fan... Its because it is the pre-season and they really dont care.

I felt like the 1st teamers looked solid. Other than that you should just judge people individually.

I'm concerned that the first play of the game ended up with a Cowboys penalty.(

I noticed the first team OL had zero procedure penalties, and only one "bad" penalty - Kosier's takedown at the goal line.

I'm concerned that the first offensive play of the game ended up with a batted pass that nearly got picxked off for a Raider TD.

I am truly not concerned that a DL failed to get a push forward and could only waive his hand and block the ball. Happened only once with Romo, and demonstrated the first team pass blocking was solid.

I'm concerned that Romo held onto the ball much too long on too many plays.

As opposed to slinging the ball downfield into triple coverage? I'd rather see Romo hold on the the ball; lower the interception rate. Plus, the OL gave him time to scan the field - on the TD pass to Witten, Romo showed good patience, the OL sealed off the 3 Raider linemen, and he found the open receiver.

Weren't we complaining about the lack of patience and time as a problem last season?

I'm concerned that a TD run by Barber was called back due to a holding penalty.

The only bad penalty for the starting OL. Plus, Barber scored the play before.

I'm concerned...oh heck, I'm getting depresed the more I type.

The bottom line is that I saw NOTHING that showed me that the team had a new focus and sense of urgency this season. Sorry, but I didn't see "the change".

I'm only concerned with the first team O and D. I saw crisper play, with exceptions (Kosier), LBs and secondary consistently tackles (exception of Spencer being faked out of his jock by a slow moving QB), and less error prone play. Yes, the backups played horribly, but that happens in preseason.

Sorry, but compared to the secondary play of last season, the bad tackling, Romo running for his life and horrible OL play and penalties of last season, I saw a much better effort. Wade and the coaching staff has to get on the backups to play better - they have to act as if their jobs are dependent upon their play, and that was seriously lacking for the 2nd and 3rd teams.

Unfortunately! :

Not perfect, but much better effort than last year. Hope it continues and filters to the backups. They have to be better prepared and play with a purpose.
