Because I'm tired of hearing about stupid rumors...

HOUSTON -- Former Houston Oilers coach Bum Phillips was released from the hospital Saturday after undergoing triple bypass heart surgery more than a week ago.

Phillips, 81, returned home to his horse ranch in Goliad, about 150 miles southwest of Houston.

He underwent successful surgery July 8 at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital after doctors discovered blockage in his arteries. They found no evidence of heart damage.

Hospital officials on Saturday said Phillips was progressing on schedule and will participate in a cardiac rehabilitation program, which is a standard course of treatment.

Phillips coached the Oilers from 1975-80 and became an icon in the city. He was responsible for drafting Earl Campbell in 1978. He was fired on New Year's Eve of 1980 after the Oilers lost a playoff game to the Oakland Raiders.

He then coached the New Orleans Saints from 1981-85 before retiring.

Ya gotta love old Bum. And a funny story about him (sorta)...a year or so ago, when Wade was still head coach of whatever team he was coaching, the announcers were talking about how he's the "son of famous coach Bum Phillips." But close captioning said he was the son of coach "Bum Filth-Lips."

Actually, kinda fitting.

Interesting tidbit. Did anyone see the reality show "Forty Deuce?" It's a burlesque house in LA. Tracie Phillips--daughter of Wade, granddaughter of Bum--was one of the dancers they featured. You can see the blurb on her here http://www.bravotv.com/Forty_Deuce/Video/ (then click on Tracy).
