Something I never expected to see

NEW YORK (AP) - Riverdale High is getting its first gay character.
Archie Comics announced Thursday that in an issue out Sept. 1, the long-running comic will introduce its first "openly gay" character, Kevin Keller.

The strapping blond will defeat Jughead in a burger eating contest, win the affection of Veronica and wrestle over how to gently rebuff her flirtations.

Jon Goldwater, co-CEO of Archie Comics, says the introduction of Kevin is "about keeping the world of Archie Comics current and inclusive."

Kevin sure can pack away the meat!

Probably in the minds of those that own Archie now they thought that this would make it "Relevant" and pump up interest. No other reason- it always comes down to money.

Ethel isn't lesbian, she's just ugly and cannot get a date.

Midge was hotter than both Betty and Veronica. Too bad she was stuck like glue to ******** Big Moose.

Interesting. This can't be the first gay character to ever be introduced in a Comic. What about the Ambigously Gay Duo?

I believe it was Northstar from Alpha Flight. They tried to mkae a big deal of it but it went no where.

Northstar (Jean-Paul Beaubier) is a fictional character, a superhero who appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. Through his mutation, Northstar gains superhuman powers, which he uses for the betterment of society. Although originally a member of Alpha Flight, a fictional team of Canadian superhumans, Northstar is later portrayed as a member of the X-Men. He is one of the first openly gay superheroes in American comic books.

I had thought one of the Green Lanterns was as well, but it could be wrong.

Why would sexual preference ever be relevant in a comic book?
I don't know but maybe I scrap my plans of calling someone a Kellner. It was a crazy, far fetched plan that sadly now has a tragic meaning.

Al and Gary: The Ambiguously Gay Duo.

It was a recurring animated sketch on Saturday Night Live.

If Betty and Veronica get it on, I just might buy the damn thing.

Not the first gay moment in Archie history.
