Something I never thought I would say

He's on a one year 750,000 dollar contract. They should be trying to re-sign him now. Before the bidding war starts in free agency. But they won't, that makes too much sense.

well hes a option as a B/UP from here on out, reminds me of case keenum a little, he can move a little stands in the pocket without ghosting quickly, and can throw most of the passes..he will force stuff but i believe Dalton would have had the same success the last few games , he was put into a bad fort game and half with a worse OL and the defense and the zeke fumbles, he never got clean start to a game where the defense kept them init..

however Dalton wont want a Backup job , well i dont believe thats his end game, so nice to find GG as very solid backup..

Rush might be gone again because nooch is project, daltons coming back and well Rush is the odd man out last man in first out..

might wait like say 5 more games before we anoint him king of backups LOL

and how does he get 750K 1 yr deal with only 8 games in the season left, isnt the vet Min prorated?

Extremely surprised by this guy. He can really throw that ball! Showed toughness, resilience, and confidence in what appeared to be a no win situation. Night and day from the other backup QBs we played, and he didn't do it vs. the Giants but one of the best teams in the league

Though I think we need to see more from him as a “starter”, he has some strong potential. Unlike DiNucci, he looks like an actual capable NFL QB, in a backup sense. He has a strong arm, he just sails them over players too much. He’s had open players but the ball sails over them too much. If he can tweak his accuracy just a bit, he will be a great, cheap backup.

As to everyone claiming “there will be bidding wars”, no. No there won’t be. You only say that because we are Dallas fans with low expectations. No team is going to be clamoring for this man.

If you can get a decent backup QB for the vet minimal in today's NFL, that's a win. And with no signing bonus and no guarantees, cutting him at the end of training camp, next year if need be, will cost us nothing.

Not a major bidding war, but some back-up QB's are getting over three million a year.
Right, but it's not like teams are going to be lining up to give Gilbert that. There's only a handful of those contracts (they're all bad, by the way), and they go mostly to guys who were starters or acquired to be starters (Smith, Mariota, Keenum, Fitz, Tyrod, etc.). Gilber itsn''t going to be in that class.

2021–Dak, Gilbert, Gooch
OL back, better D through draft and FA...add another 5-8 wins.
