might wait like say 5 more games before we anoint him king of backups LOLHe's on a one year 750,000 dollar contract. They should be trying to re-sign him now. Before the bidding war starts in free agency. But they won't, that makes too much sense.

Garrett is a keeper....
Gilbert that is... Take the rest to the woodshed as its over. The young man will be the back up to Dakota next year. Good on him. He can play.

I like your thinking.Heck no, let some team sign him to a huge deal, and we get a 3rd round comp pick.![]()
Not a major bidding war, but some back-up QB's are getting over three million a year. Why would there be a bidding war? lol

If you can get a decent backup QB for the vet minimal in today's NFL, that's a win. And with no signing bonus and no guarantees, cutting him at the end of training camp, next year if need be, will cost us nothing.might wait like say 5 more games before we anoint him king of backups LOL
and how does he get 750K 1 yr deal with only 8 games in the season left, isnt the vet Min prorated?
Right, but it's not like teams are going to be lining up to give Gilbert that. There's only a handful of those contracts (they're all bad, by the way), and they go mostly to guys who were starters or acquired to be starters (Smith, Mariota, Keenum, Fitz, Tyrod, etc.). Gilber itsn''t going to be in that class. Not a major bidding war, but some back-up QB's are getting over three million a year.
