Something I noticed about JJ today.

He decided that he was going to run his way today- not the way BP wanted him to- the way he had been running most of this season. When you have defenders in the backfield- like he did today- you have to put a move on them to be able to do anything. He was not doing that before. He ran the way he did last year- which is what BP SHOULD have had him doing ALL THIS YEAR. that and the ankle finally has healed enough so that he can juke with confidence.

Kind of contradicting isnt it? He couldnt cut because of his ankle but BP was stopping him from being him. Thats what I get out of this. ;)

What about before the philly game and his injury? HE WAS NOT running this way either.

No coach in any sport is going to stop a player from being his best. Parcells included.

Furthermore BP has coached one of the best ever in Curtis Martin and plenty of other very good ones with NY.

I'll give you Bill's inability to judge offensive line talent all day long, but when it comes to coaching running backs (and linebackers), I'll take BP over anybody alive.

The difference with this game is that the offense was more game planned for jujo.
The offense was game planned to run, run and run some more. We knew our OT's have been exposed and teams are coming after Bledsoe. The simple answer is to make a concentrated effort and commitement to run effectively.

That cut he made in the backfield, when the LBer was in the backfield off the left side at the snap, was amzing. Same thing he did last year in the Giants game. One hop back, and cut it to the outside. Beautifullllllll

He was running like that because it was time for him to make plays and not be afraid of Parcells.

Oh man that's just getting stupid old.

lol

The difference today had nothing to do with his ankle. JJ followed his instincts and ignored his blocks several times today the way Barry Sanders used to do in Detroit. Barry would ignore his blocks and take a chance by going outside and creating his own space. A lot of Barry's big runs were when he went outside his blocks and ad libbed. This is very risky and this is why Barry got stuffed for negative yardage in some games and didn't do so well near the goal line.

I agree with the original post. JJ looked a lot more instinctive today. He didn't always follow his blocks and created space with his quickness. I agree with the the overall take of this thread. It wasn't JJ's production that stood out so much as it was his his style of running looked entirely different. It looked as if he just said: "****, I'm going to get us the first down. I don't need to move the pile and wear out the D-line."

But what does Curtis Martin, Rodney Hampton and Maurice Carthon all have in common? They were/are straight ahead, physical move the pile type of runners, something which Julius Jones is clearly not. . There were several runs in which JJ didn't follow his blocks and busted outside. His running style had anything but Parcells signature on it today.

Curtis Martin is not a north/south runner, nor has he ever been. Neither was Joe Morris.

No way are those two backs running style in any way similar to jujo. They were power runners. Martin is a power runner follows blocks, patient on sweeps. Then he makes his move in the second tier. Morris was a power runner( sweeps). Thats why other than Martin (by Bill's account burned them out early).

Jujo needs to run in space, get you going one way then make a move right past you. He does not follow his blocks, is not patient with his blockers, and might cut against the grain. That is so not power running. He explodes to a hole does not like to wait till his line gets a helmet on everyman.

Some of these young players the Cowboys got have alot of talent, but they need the right system. For example, Santana Moss, he has flourished in Joe Gibbs system because doesn't he remind you of Gary Clark.

I will grant you that JJ is more likely compared to a poor man's Barry Sanders, and no, Bill has never had a guy like him before.

But Carthon and OJ Anderson were closer to T-Ham in style (certainly not in talent) than they are to Martin or JJ.

Martin can and does cut effectively in space, and is a fine receiver as well. MOrris was a smaller version of him.

JJ might not be carbon copies of those guys, but neither Martin nor Morris were exactly considered downhill runners.

Either way, the man clearly knows running backs and has proved it time and again in this league. The idea that somehow he has 'coached' productivity out of JJ this year is some of the worse nonsense I've ever heard of.

actually, he ran the way Parcells challenged him to run
