Yesterday during the Gurode interview...Jerry mentioned that Holland would be back next week and that he lost a lot of weight.

This basically confirmed a suspicion i had when he first got 'hurt' that basically they were going to let him sit and work off the excess weight he came to camp with and basically told him you got 3 weeks to get to this number or you are gone.

I believe that Holland will be our starting LG and he has not been hurt but has been getting in shape.

So he's not practicing or playing so he can lose weight? Couldn't he practice and play and lose weight?

Nick Eatman postulated the exact same thing last week on the lunch break and Jerry mentioning Holland losing weight, unsolicited, kind of confirms this in my mind.

he'd probably burn more calories going full speed in practice vs. jogging and other drills on the sidelines

Not without getting injured.

Interesting. I thought about it when I heard it but Jerry threw it in there very deliberately.

he wasnt jogging. he was working one on one with the trainers and running sprints. it was mentioned more than once that he was drenched in sweat and working very hard on the side.

for most players going through a regular practice is piece of cake. off-season conditioning drills holland was doing is very hard which allows you to do those drills at full speed without losing technique.

Working with trainers on the side during practice is extremely difficult and exhausting, very physically demanding. Most players can't wait to leave the trainers and get back to practice, practice is not as demanding as working with the trainers.

Let's see...

Phil Costa has appeared to have straight-up beaten out a five time Pro Bowl player for the starting center job, and Jason Garrett is going to just take the LG spot away from Bill Nagy after Nagy has straight-up earned job? Who is Montrae Holland? Who fits the offensive scheme and philosophy better? Hmmm...

We'll see..

I was thinking about the same thing. It does seem like a weird message if they give the job to Holland after all the time he's missed and after showing up out of shape. I'd like to see Holland have to take it away from Nagy at this point, not the other way around.

(My 100th post. This now puts me only several million behind you long-timers).

Maybe Holland is just one of those guys who cant motivate themselves. He has the talent to be a very solid player for us, maybe riding him into shape is a step in the right direction.

Versatility 8bounds .... LT/RT Free, RG/LG Kosier, LT/RT Smith, G/C Nagy, G/C Kowaloski, G/T Arkin, G/C Costa and LT/RT Parnell.

This...working out in practice would be great for building strength to help lose weight. I don't buy it.

Your 2011 Starting Line:

Free - Nagy - Costa - Kosier - Smith

If I had Montrae's personal email address, I'd send him this emoticon:
:hotdog:and then this

If it turns out that Holland gets the nod, it's either he has performed better or the issue with Andre is all about $.

As a physical therapist and athletic trainer, I can tell you, a good trainer (and Britt Brown is one of the best) will make even a hard practice seem like a piece of cake compared to a hard rehab routine. Seriously, dude ain't jogging.

I've heard the same things regarding Brown. Players have joked in the past that they play through injury so they don't have to see Britt.
