I know I am old fashioned, .. I know that.

Is this something new, .. or is this as inappropriate as I think it is.

An uncle on my wife's side of the family, .. the grandparents are announcing that their 16 yr old grandson is no longer a virgin.

Not dating, nothing serious, .. the opportunity just presented itself so he is now no longer a virgin.

OK, .. that's weird.

I think announcing it is new. Hadn't heard about stuff like that before. Having 16 year olds lose their virginity is nothing new. That has been happening for forever.

Yes, it's odd. 16 year old promiscuity issues aside, it's a personal matter and not a family one.

Tell them to take a page from Tom Landry's playbook and act like you've been there before. Spiking the ball and dancing is unseemly, especially if you're not even the one to score the touchdown.

Yeah, what he said.

Being announced by anyone in the family seems a bit strange.

It's the FB era. Everybody seems to have some sort of deep seated need to tell everybody else every little detail about their lives, as if somebody cares about things like that.

Tweet it! Follow my Tweets! Now that's not enough, now you have to have facetime messaging to the masses to tell them when your about to brush your teeth or whatever else.

Was better when we didn't have all of this stuff IMO.

All of this.
But yes, the announcing part is beyond weird.

Not exactly the same thing, but a family member (young, not married) on my wife's side recently decided to announce she was pregnant on facebook... She did tell a select few family members personally, but still. I guess you have to take the good with the bad with technology these days.

How did the grandparents know? Did the kid tell them? Were they there to watch? Weird...!

Do they have any girls in the family? What if one of them loses their virginity, is she going to go tell grandpa and grandma?

Unbelievable....

FB, ... I think you are right.

I think it is weird that the grandparents even knew, (I'm assuming their daughter told them) .. and it is weird that they would feel the need to tell anybody. (their neice, my wife)

Are we related? My idiot cousin did that by posting the ultrasound on FB, then deleting it after we commented on it...and she realized she hadn't told her dad (my uncle) yet.

Is there a card for this?

Oh never-mind I found it. Lol

Just in case anyone's interested...I too would like to make the same announcement, regarding myself of course!

Kinda agree. This 'living in public' thing still seems odd to me. Not my cup of tea at all...

That doesn't count, someone else has to be there.

;)

A lot of 16 year old guys lose their virginity due to an opportunity. Most go out looking for the opportunity. I lost my virginity at 15 due to an unexpected opportunity that arose. Turned out being the best 30 seconds of my young life.

It's sad if someone isn't it can result in a real tear jerker.:
