He mentioned something Bill Belichick used to say about being a tough team. Can you run it when they know you’re going to run it? Can you stop the run when you know they’re going to run it? And can you cover kicks?

For the Cowboys, the answer is no to all three. This team is still soft.

I think the criticism is fair, especially when it comes to the run defense, but I’d separate “soft” from “not yet good enough.” Those aren’t necessarily the same thing. Especially on defense.

The offense actually showed today that it can be physical and impose itself when it needs to. Dak was decisive, Lamb was dominant, and there were stretches where Dallas dictated the game rather than just reacting to Washington. So I don't think it's fair to say the entire team is soft based on what we saw today.

Where I do think the criticism lands is the defense. Dallas still hasn't consistently shown that it can win at the line of scrimmage against a team that is committed to running the ball. And that's really the essence of TB's point. When the opponent knows exactly what you're going to do, can you stop them anyway? That's the standard that separates a physically imposing team from one that just has good individual players.

Special teams is another legitimate concern. You can't consistently give away field position or fail to make the routine plays and expect to win against the better teams in the league.

So I wouldn't say “this team is soft” as an absolute yet. I'd say they're still trying to prove they're a tough team. Today answered some questions on offense, but the defense and special teams still have to show they can impose their will when the other team knows what's coming. Until they do that consistently, the criticism is going to be fair. Let's just hope it doesn't take until November!!!

No movement up front on either side of the ball though the defense did improve in the 2nd half in that area.

At the game, Boys are a work in progress! Dak can make the tough throws but somehow misses the easy ones.

On defense Downs and Q are solid. The rest still needs to catch up!

I remember that comment and his criticism. By that definition we are still soft. But considering Tyler Smith is still out and we’re adjusting to a new defense we haven’t seen the finished product yet. We’ll revisit this in November and December. We as fans may have to accept that the finished product on Defense may not come to fruition till next season when the system settles.

Well we have some much invested in the passing game on offense.

Dak only had five incompletions which is also called 84%

Brady also said the defense played better than week 1 and elided to they will improve. They have things to clean up.
Just as some of us on here said.
So even Brady does not think it is all doom and gloom.

Aside from Steele, I felt the O-line was generally good tonight. We simply didn’t try to run it enough. That’s on Schottenheimer, not Williams and not any O-lineman.

Thought Guyton was particularly good in pass protection, compared to how he’s previously been.

Guyton has been quietly good the first two weeks. Haven't heard his name. For a left tackle that's what you want.

This team is soft. It's always been soft since Jerry's taking over.
