You are certainly correct that anyone representing the franchise saying 'the right thing' would be catering to fans hoping they say 'the right thing'. On the other hand, I do not believe any individual says 'the right thing' in any given moment publicly.

I may be reading the OP's intent wrong. That said, I (only myself) believe some members of the Dallas Cowboys talk too much. Too often. For too long. My opinion makes zero difference to them. However, it does matter to me if it is something I think could have not been said or said differently. My thoughts on the matter hold no value for every other person on Earth. My thoughts do hold value for me though. It is what it is.
Outside of fan angst I just do not see a downside. Pissing fans off still keeps them engaged.

Come on, everyone knows many of the suggestions in this thread are not realistic in this day and age.

I watch almost every PC, and McCarthy never hypes anything. It's obvious he doesn't enjoy the PCs, sees them as a necessary evil, and gets through them as best he can by answering the questions pretty blandly with a little humor thrown in. It's actually one reason I like him, because he's a pure football coach and not a phony slick talker like the last guy.

Silence is definitely NOT golden for the NFL itself - which is why the NFL REQUIRES coaches and players to meet the media. Complaining that they respond to questions is astonishing to me. Do you want them to all respond like Marshawn Lynch? This very forum survives due to comments made by players and coaches. No comments = no stories = no fan forum fodder for fans to discuss.

It is more than a little ironic to complain about comments by players/coaches on a forum that only exists due to those comments.
Right. I didn’t say never talk. Talk less. Sell less. Hype less.

Tues there was a report on how sloppy Dak was in OTA,'s.....today MM says this
...maybe they just have to massage and manage a very fragile physche' of Dak.,but that is also why he gets deer in the headlights syndrom at the most crucial times.

PR VRS gaslighting.....ok, i can agree to differentiate. Sports isnt critical to a society.
Fans simply gotta learn to read between the lines, whats b.s and whats meets eye test, especially over a number of seasons, playoff games.

Lets apply gaslighting to the critical issues of society....problem is most give too much attention to sports ala Romans as their society fell.
Dude let me stop you right there I'm gonna tell you something no gaslighting going on there's no nonsense going on maybe one day he wasn't on In Sync with some of the receivers that are not named CD Lam you know the new guys that are trying to work their way into the offense that need a lot of work you know how I know this because all the sports pundits these vacating can't wait for the bad news so they can jump on it and agree with it because when the good news comes out they jump on it and say it should have never been posted it must be gaslighting...

You remember all the nonsense last year accounting the man's interceptions and practice and camp everybody saying Prescott's gonna have a worse season than the year before which by the way his receiving core the offensive line the lack of a run game in other factors coming off an injury all had news and stories about his interceptions but guess what when the season started up Prescott leads the league in touchdowns and was one of the top quarterbacks in turnovers meaning he didn't have any I mean poor poor Dak Haters..:muttley:Literally destroyed all those news coming in that they felt they should send reporters and watch every snap and every throw and make sure they reported it and guess what happened when the man was at the top of the league second team all pro second MVP voting 36 touchdowns and I don't even know what the interceptions were but they were on like the 5th or 6th page and you know how I know that he isn't a person who turns the ball over a lot because he's 6th all time not for the Cowboys for the NFL and touchdown interception ratio so let's like part this in the garage about gaslighting there's nothing to see here they're in camps and they're throwing the balls to a bunch of guys who need a lot of work it's early on in camp and you just love it when you heard that bad report but when the new one comes out you call it gaslight like they're hiding something hiding what demands the top five quarterback in this league in most years at worst he's top 10...
They cannot wait for bad rankings bad news and anything that can just use to fuel there hat narrtives.. But good try you responded to me and now you got the bad end of a BULL... I don't need to make excuses for Prescott there's one of the top quarterbacks in the league and he don't need to be gaslit he's already proved over 8 full years not counting the injuries never had a losing season the man's already proved himself yeah they need to play better in the playoffs I don't care that you think they can't win games because of Prescott in bigger games it's the team that's the problem all of them together..

Today Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said at a brief presser that QB Dak Prescott is “having his best offseason program that we’ve had.” He later said that Dak’s “connection with receivers is better.” Went on to say “The real test will be when we get to training camp,” but “the passing game has met all spring thresholds.” Yada yada.

Note to Cowboys front office, coaches and players: Sometimes silence is golden. When your fan base has been hyped, sold, re-sold and hyper-hyped again and again and again….just give it a rest. Especially after the most embarrassing playoff loss in the 64 year history of this franchise.

What should McCarthy, the players and especially the Jones boys be saying? Maybe just once they could simply make generic, simple statements with ZERO hype and ZERO salesmanship and ZERO bravado. For example:
  • “These press conferences will be brief this season.”
  • “This season we are going to let the results do all the talking. We are not going to comment on any specific players right now.”
  • ”These guys are working hard.”
  • ”We’re focused on our work, getting better at each position.”
  • ”When you have a disappointment like last year, you show up to work hard, stay humble and get better.”
  • ”Most practices are open to the press. You can observe who looks good and report accordingly.“
It will never happen. But I would sure welcome a change from the usual over-hyped gobbledy-goop we get starting this time of year. We don’t need to be sold anything.

Show us…don’t tell us.

I like it bob, but jerry would fire you !! lol
He cant stop selling or talking. I think some of what mm says he was told to say it by jerry.

This off season in particular, they should have just kept themselves and everyone else quiet !
Except Micah, he does whatever he wants.

Amen. Stop talking and just do.

I've even stopped listening the FAN. I can't stand the Jerry and Stephen interviews where the FAN plays all nicey nice with them. The condescension from Micky Spags and the overhype by Irvin. I no longer care what anyone associated with the Cowboys or the media has to say. I am a big boy; I can tell what's going on by watching games. I no longer care for that other noise. I remember when Dallas was on Hardknocks the first time. I ate that up. I was so excited for it. Now, I wouldn't watch if they did again. I just don't care about anything with the organization outside of what is displayed on the field.

I completely understand.

What‘s ironic to me is the more the Cowboys disappoint us the fans, it seems the harder the hype is that follows. Winning is the best sales pitch in sports.

I think the NFL requires Mini Camp press conferences. They need something on the NFL Network.

Remember this key point too - the guy trying to carny you, Jerry Jones, is the only current GM in the 21st Century who was the GM for his same team in the 20th Century. We are 1/4 of the way done with the 21st Century to add time context.

FYI this holds true for the fan base and social media all the outlets including here whole lot less crazy opinions and filling the forum up with hyperbole and rhetoric... A little less of that sure would be golden...

So basically like every other fan on the planet, it's OK to talk as long as they say what you want to hear........

As I stated earlier, it doesn't matter what a player, coach, exec, owner says someone is going to find fault with it. People will parse every word, inspect every intonation, examine their body language, what they wear, how they wear they cap, break down even the most mundane pressers or comments like the Zapruder film. Maybe they should hire some scriptwriters, get some focus groups involved before each presser....... IDK, it's an off season presser, every team, not just Cowboys or the NFL sells hope and highlights whatever silver lining or positive aspect they can find. With that said, I would take any MM presser over Garrett's any day......lol

I understand what the OP is saying, but TBH, coachspeak seems to be only part of the issue. I'm more concerned about the Micahs of the league running their mouth. And it's not about the money. It's just some players can't be rehabilitated without some corrective therapy. Shock collars come to mind.

MM should get himself a press secretary that can spin everything and keep repeating that , "we'll circle back to that later"

It would be awesome if they gave the "sale" a rest.

We are at the point where most Cowboys fans won't feel confident with a 17-0 one seed. Admit it, most of you would have that creeping feeling down inside, just waiting for the accident to happen.

We need to be shown, not told, not sold, but shown in the playoffs.
The closeup of Dak's eyes (big as saucers), on the sidelines after Green Bay's initial score in last year's playoff game said it all .. He ain't got it in him. Move on.
