Wow, that was incredible. I wonder how many fans will wake up tomorrow and open up their phone and see that they missed the Cowboys win? My wife would have been one, except I ran into our room were she lay in bed jumping for joy.
Not often a team comes back from turning the ball over three times. And it was close from the beginning because we just couldn't get the ball in the endzone our first two tries.
In the end though, the best team did win. And really, when you look at the stats, you forget that the Giants did jack squat on offense. Eli passed for 193 yards on 36 attempts for a 5.4 yard per attempt average. His quarterback rating? 70.7.
What about our offense? Well, let's start with the quarterback. Tony Romo was 36 of 45 for 356 yards. Thats 7.9 yards per attempt and a completion percentage of 80%. I seem to recall a few drops tonight as well. His final QB rating was 103.3. We all could have at least found a little light in those stats after a tough loss, but instead Romo takes the team down the field in a minute and a half and wins the game. Sometimes you just sit there and look at the television and say "gaaahaha!"
Final numbers, the Dallas defense allowed 289 yards of total offense. The Giants converted only 6 of 14 on third down attempts. The Giants did have 61 total plays for an average of 4.7 yards per play. Giants put up 26 points, but really 14 are from defensive scores. One fumble recovery for a touchdown, and an "interception" from the Street miss.
The Dallas offense had a total of 436 yards on 68 plays for an average of 6.4 yards per play. They dominated the time of possession with a 37:18 second vs 22:46 on the Giants side. Dallas rushed for 80 yards on 23 attempts for an unsightly 3.5 yards per rush. We were 6 - 11 on third down conversions. It will be interesting to see how the rushing numbers line up in games as we go along. A win is a win, however this is certainly an area of concern. However, maybe we will do more short yardage stuff instead of runs as last year. With Romo's accuracy, those are almost analogous to a run. I will have to re-watch the game to see how many short yardage throws were made, but I remember quite a few screens or dump offs to backs for us this game.
Overall a nail biter that came down to the last 7 seconds before Dallas got the win. In the end you would say that Dallas just need to better take care of the ball. In reality, the Giants got quite a few lucky breaks, at least on the two interceptions. One was certainly behind our TE, and I will give that to Romo, however the other was just a fluke bounce.
One final thought. Can you imagine the vitriol and hate that would be spewed by this "fanbase" here on Cowboyzone if the goal line situation had been reversed. The Giants chose to pass on third down and 2 with a 1:45 left in the game. That was a poor decision and terrible use of the clock. I don't know if that was the call from the Giants staff, or if it was on Eli, but someone was not thinking. Did it give us the game? How can we truly know, but when Witten caught the ball and scored the game winner, their was 7 seconds left on the clock.
What a win! Here we go! Go Cowboys!
