songs from your high school days...

Songs/records that remind me of that time in my life:

Time Passages, by Al Stewart
Van Halen I and Van Halen II
What a Fool Believes, by the Doobie Brothers
Several songs by the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)
Coming Up, and Goodnight Tonight, by Paul McCartney & Wings
The album Inner Secrets, by Santana

Lots of tunes. I can't even name them all but one that stands out for me was Don Henley's Boys of Summer.

First of all.....LMAO at Morrison's "Return of the Mack". I still love that song. NO idea why.

I graduated in HS in '94....and it may seem narrow minded, but I tend to think of the early nineties as being the most musically rich period in recent history. Sooo much going on.

Still had some quality punk rock borrowing from the late 70's and 80's. There were still bands that knew how to play straight up rock and roll....an art that seemingly vanished in the last decade (with the exception of a few bands in the last 2-3 years). Hip hop was coming into its own. R&B put out stuff that everyone liked. Hardcore bands were just about to peak. Metal was just that. Metal. Not this Nu metal bull**** that permeates the airwaves now.

...and of course there was grunge.

...and I'm speaking for myself here, but I wasn't unfamiliar with oldies either. I'm probably being naive regarding other generations, but it just seemed to me that mine was raised during one of the very best periods of musical growth...a period that saw considerable change, but still gave its due to its predecessors.

That's one of the songs I immediately turn off, like "Life in a Northern Town." Conjures up some bad memories.

Def Lepperd's Hysteria album was huge in my last 2 years of high school. We played "Pour Some Sugar On Me" to death and my senior prom theme was "Love Bites."

:D

I like Life in a Northern Town as well.

For me, that song has sentimental attachments. It always takes me back to a time and place.

Me too: my freshman year in college when I was basically flunking Econ 101.

And they said we wouldn't last.

Left, Right, Left, was a great song and we played it out to, 98-2002, but we were mostly a 36 mafia high school before they went pop. We all thought we were bad bc we listened to them talk "walk up to ya house, knock on ya door and blow yo *** off, drop em off drop em off, ***** we gotta sawed off.."
