How does Sonny Styles translate into a 3-4? I'd assume a MLB and not OLB. That would put him and Oveshown in the middle. Which one would play the oversized run stuffer, eat up blocks, role and which one would play the rangy, keep clean, role? Is this position valued at 12?

LB spots are interchangeable these days, especially in the nickel.

If you want to assign a traditional LB role to him, then IMO, Styles has an A+ game as a Mike and an A+ game as a Will. I would make him a Mike because it's a rarer skillset. But I'm not convinced there's actually a difference, and Styles is good enough to ball out regardless.

He's good in coverage, elite in the run game. His best skill is shedding blockers, imo.

He'll fit in any scheme. Good players can play in any scheme, and good coaches can adjust their scheme to fit good players. Looking for players that fit a scheme vs talent is how you wind up with Taco Charlton instead of TJ Watt.

I don't expect him to be available at 12.

100% spot on

Does he really. I feel like his size and former position has him as more of a finesse LBer type which we usually struggle with. Feel like we need a little more of a thumper inside. Styles seems very close to Overshown already.

Does anyone know how Golday or Barton, what type of game do they have? Thumpers or more finesse?

There are 2 off-ball LBs in 3-4 and 4-2-5 Nickel.

Styles would be the "over sized" LB.

The best thumper LB's are usually lackluster in pass coverage. The best I've seen at shedding blocks and slicing in for tackles this year are
ILB Josiah Trotter Missouri 2/3, ILB Red Murdock Buffalo 5/6, and Jaden Duggar Louisiana 7th/UDFA

Golday 2/3 is more of a SAM, pass rush ability. Can cover TE's. Cincinnati used him really weird. His stats suffered because of it.

Barton 4/5 He has trouble moving laterally and doesn't have a great first step but he does have coverage chops and great pursuit. Had an 18.5% missed tackle rate this year, not ideal. I see him as a roaming mike in a 4-3 or 4-2-5.

Stiles can play anywhere hes asked to. Would be a perfect transitional piece for Us - if he makes it to 12.
Believe we have 3 main targets, and if any one of Stiles, Mansoor or Downs are there they take em.

his best skill imo is tackling,he has a vise grip and almost never misses a tackle.

The Bradie James type MLB is gone. No one uses that type of player anymore.

Baun is 225 and Dean is 230

Styles looks thin because he's 6'4", but he weighs 240. And he just crushes lead blockers.

Turn on his Indiana tape... they use a power-heavy run game that targets LBs, and he just continually beats their blockers to make plays. He probably sheds 10 blocks by halftime.

I think that that you will see Overshown used some at edge rushing the passer. I was giving some thought about this the other day when I did a mock draft that resulted in, inter alia, Styles, Golday, and Rodrigues.

Would you guys be happy with that or overkill at LB? I contemplated adding Heineke to that group as well.
