Other teams didn't prioritize the smartest player, so I don't think that is a wise strategy. At our pick, he was a no-brainer. If you are suggesting that Dallas picked Downs because he was the smartest player available at the time, I think it goes beyond just smarts

Washington drafted a freak at linebacker. Made perfect sense. I honestly understand why teams passed on Downs. Teams had more pressing needs.

Well I’ll say this people were calling him overrated prior to the draft. I sure as hell wouldn’t have minded him at 11. I suspect both have solid careers.
