What is everyone's opinion with moving or not moving these guys?

Bobby Carpenter
Patrick Crayton
Marcus Spears
Sam Hurd
Cory Proctor

Just to give my opinion, I think Carpenter is the most likely player to be moved, just because it sounded like Sean Lee is the favorite for the Nickel LB job. Jerry seemed pretty confident that Lee would see the field right away. I would ship Carpenter to Miami for a 5th round pick in the 2011 draft.

I think it would be smart to keep Spears at this point, unless we get an offer we cannot refuse (2nd or 3rd round pick in 2011). There's no one we drafted we could feel confident in to replace Spears this year, and while I know the team is high on Bowen and Hatcher, they've never been a starter before in their entire pro career. Worst case would be Spears playing out his contract, leaving next season and us hopefully getting a decent compensatory pick for him in 2011.

If we could get a 6th or 7th round pick for Sam Hurd in next year's draft, I would take it in a heartbeat. Chances are he will not make the roster if he's on the team going into training camp. There are just not enough spots for the kid.

I know Crayton has been given permission to seek a trade, but this situation makes me feel uneasy. He's made some big catches for us over the years, even last year, and I would try to keep him on the team if we could. However, if he's going to make the situation difficult and be a headcase, I guess there's no choice but to move him. If we could get a 5th rounder for him, I would be happy with that.

Sadly, Proctor is going to be on the team IMO. The Cowboys didn't draft any competition for the guy, and it's unlikely an UDFA would beat him out. Another year for the Proctologist.

So I wouldn't be surprised if Hurd and Carpenter are the players traded in the near future. What do you guys think?

Carpenter, Proctor and Hurd need to go. Cut em, you can't even trade them.

Spears and Crayton are still players and should stay within the current circumstances and structure of the team.

Spears will still start at DE and deserves too.

Crayton is the 4th WR and Ogletree the 5th. WR is set now for the next 3-5 seasons with RW11 and Crayton up for judgment by end of this season.

Unless Crayton just flat out wants to leave, I'd keep him. He's Romo's safety valve. Not sure if he'd make the 45 every week, but on big games I would try and find a roster spot for him.

Spears has been serviceable while here and I'm sure he will continue to be if he sticks around this yr. He don't appear to be in our long term plans, but I wouldn't move him this offseason if we can't get any value from the deal.

Proctor... I'm thankfully Proctor didn't get a lot of playing time last season. #Thatisall

Sadly Hurd is gone and thankfully so is Carp.

I'd like to know how seriously they tried to trade those players during the draft. I guess we try again before the season starts.

Barbi is the only one I really want to see gone. I cringed every game last year he was playing and really wondered at our LB depth that he was seeing the field.

Don't forget that you need back-up players in this league so keeping a Spears makes sense. Injuries are something good teams prepare for and have a player able to step in and at least play to a reasonable level.

Man, Crayton has made some big plays for the Boys. I think we should keep him until someone beats him out in training camp.

NEVER get a 5th for Carpenter.

Unless Crayton is cap killing (and there is no cap this season), no reason not to keep him unless you get really good value (i.e. a good OT for him + a pick). Enjoy your depth, and be protected against injury. You know the guy is good for 700 yards and a half dozen TDs if pressed into service.

I also keep Spears and hope for a compensatory pick unless he garners a decent offer. Get the DE rotation and pick the top performers next year to resign.

Am I the only one who wants to see Jason Williams on the field this year?

I agree and will go further, We will get nothing for him. Every team can look at game film of what he has done. The fact he was a 1st round pick and still was only able to become a very average situational player should eliminate any teams desire to pay us for him. If we cut him, someone might pick him up, probably will, but for a draft pick ??? NEVER !!!

Bobby Carpenter (Won’t make the final cut unless an injury happens)
Patrick Crayton (He is done as a Cowboy. Won’t play another down)
Marcus Spears (Signed his tender. Cheap DE, why get rid of him?)
Sam Hurd (His time has passed. His release is coming)
Cory Proctor (Much needed Depth, not going anywhere anytime soon)

Why the push to get rid of Crayton? He has been a productive player for Dallas. I think we need all the talent we can get. I think the WRs for 2010 should be:

Austin
Bryant
Williams
Crayton
Olgetree

Sorry Hurd

This. Austin, Dez and Roy (ugh) are the starting 3 receivers. But Tree is likely better now than Crayton and could replace Roy as the #3 down the road.

Yeah, I don't think Crayton's pride will allow him to play w/the Boys unless no one else comes calling. If that happens, I wouldn't mind keeping him either. He is already paid for for this year... so let them battle it out in camp.

I think the same happens with Hurd or Watkins if they aren't traded in terms of battling it out in camp.

Carpenter should be shopped heavily to 4-3 teams... but again, I don't see him being outright cut before training camp.

Probably just gonna have to keep em.

Sucks because I doubt that Spears returns after next season.

Hang onto them through training camp at least. Maybe some team gets beat up and will be willing to throw a higher pick this way.

we would be stupid to get rid of crayton. he has good timing with Tony. He had a good comeback year, was good on punt retuns. Keep him at least for this year.

I just can't believe there is no market for Crayton. He'd still be a good receiver on a team in need.

I would guess that to be the plan.

Give it a little time. As things play out over the summer, guys get cut, guys get hurt, etc., the market will improve. Again, you just don't see many vets traded during the draft.
