Team Reacquires Popular Running Back For Playoffs

In a very surprising move, the New Orleans Saints have re-signed running back Deuce McAllister. A pair of sources have confirmed the move to NewOrleans.Com/Sports.

The leading rusher in New Orleans Saints history, McAllister played for the Saints for eight seasons from 2001 through 2008, playing in 97 games. McAllister rushed for 6,096 yards on 1,429 carries with 49 rushing touchdowns. Deuce has caught 234 passes for 1,720 yards and five touchdowns.

Last with the Saints in 2008, MCAllister played in 13 games. He carried 107 times for 418 yards and five scores and caught 18 passes for 128 yards and a score. The Saints parted ways with Deuce following the 2008 season. He suffered a pair of knee injuries during his stay with the Saints.

McAllister reached the Pro Bowl in 2002 and 2003.

The Saints host the Cardinals at 3:30 Saturday afternoon in the Superdome in the Divisional round of the NFC playoffs. McAllister's role in that contest has not been defined.

Reggie Bush has battled a knee injury in 2009. Pierre Thomas missed the season-ending Carolina game with injured ribs. Both are expected to play against Arizona.

The move could be symbolic in nature though that remains uncertain.

They should resign Archie if they want to throw someone a deserved bone.

He can't play in the playoff game, right? We had signed a LB but he can't play until next year.

LOL! Who cares if they have him play? The dude won't be anywhere near game shape and he'd be an absolute non-factor. If they're signing him cause they're going to need to play him then they're very desperate at this point at the position.

:laugh2:

This is such an arrogant move. So they plan to replace a contributor on the gameday roster for a guy that hasn't suited up all year?

The ring thing is BS. Each team gets 150 rings to distribute however they want. They didn't need to sign him for that.

The "grim" side is maybe the Saints running backs aren't as healthy as advertised.
