Sources: Texas Tech DC Matt Wallerstedt fired

Texas Tech fired defensive coordinator Matt Wallerstedt after the coach was suspected of being under the influence of an unknown substance while on campus, sources told ESPN.com on Thursday.

Wallerstedt was sent home from the facility Monday, according to a source.

I'm probably in the majority of people that didn't think Texas Tech even had a defensive coordinator.

Only interesting because this was the coach who came with Kliff from TAMU.
His 3-4 never worked at Tech and the decision to play a bunch of 200 pound linebackers was laughed at by Arkansas.
DL and LB is the one area of the team not loaded with young top talent.

Mike Smith is a former Tech LB and NFL coach with the Jets. I think he'll do good things... eventually
Now Tech needs to use that spot on the staff for another top notch recruiter.
