Ok guys, I am a future southerner who wants to like more the things about the south. I am wondering if you have any suggestions for Southern Rock music. I like Southern Country and wanted to give Rock as shot. I like ZZ Top as I think they're southern.

Please give me some suggestions.

Thanks :D

Well, there are a lot of classic southern rock bands but if your looking for something more contemporary, I'd say that you could probably start with Kid Rock. I would say he's Southern Rock.

ZZ Top isn't from the South they are from Texas :laugh2:

Southern Rock begins and ends with Lynyrd Skynyrd

Check out

http://www.txmusictv.com/

We have lots of performances up on the website, along with interviews and other stuff.

Lots of varied performers also.

Season 2 starts in January with alot more great music.

I have discovered Dale Watson from working on the show and I absolutely love the guy!

My wife is from South Tx and I pick on her all the time by saying the South stops at the Louisiana - Tx border :laugh2:

It begins with the Allman Brothers pretty much. Skynyrd is the prototypical Southern Rock band from the '70's though.

Stevie Ray Vaughan... none were better.

SRV was a bluesman...

There are some good Southern Rock bands out there...

Skynard
Allman Brothers
Molly Hatchet
.38 Special (my favorite SR band)

Skynard is the gold standard for Southern Rock. The all time greatest southern Rock anthem was Sweet Home Alabama.

But there were/are other great bands. As mentioned .38 Special and the Allman Brothers.

Check out Dickey Betts for a great guitarist.

Canned Heat and Credence Clearwater Revival were also fantastic.

The Early Charlie Daniels Band was also great. Long Haired Country Boy was one of my favorite songs.

Skynard, Allman Bros, Molly Hatchet, Marshall Tucker Band, Blackfoot, The Outlaws and .38 Special should round out the standards.

I'd throw in some early Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Not your typical "Southern Rock" band, but from the FLA area.

If that is the case...Southern rock sucks.

Thankfully it is not the case.

Allman Brothers band
Some Charlie Daniels band...always thought they were more SoFr than country.
38 special
Blackfoot
Black Oak Arkansas

Uggh...LS is so over played and just not as good as so many think they are.

Allman brothers band is much better...heck Duane by himself was ten times better IMO.

If I leave here tomorrow...I will say thank you. :laugh2: Man that song grates on my ever loving nerves.

Give Me Whipping Post, Statesboro Blues By the allman brothers
Train Train by blackfoot
Jim Dandy BOA
Ghost Riders in the sky by the Outlaws
Hold on Loosely and Caught up in you by 38 Special
Legend of Wooley Swamp, Still in Saigon and In America - Charlie Daniels band
Can't you See - Marshall Tucker band (some don't know but Charlie Daniels played fiddle early in the marshal tucker band)

So you're the guy who doesn't like Skynard.
