I'll echo that sentiment. When someone shows the level of compassion that pilot did, we should all be grateful for his example and strive to emulate it.

Like others said they could make up the time in the air. That said, if I was on the plane and knew the circumstances I would gladly pay $200 for hotel if need be. It would be the best $200 I spent in a long time.
